VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State junior men's basketball standout
Blaise Wallace was named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. This is the second weekly honor of the season for Wallace. The recognition follows two outstanding performances this past week in a pair of conference victories in Mississippi.
Wallace, a native of Tallahassee, Fla., averaged a double-double versus Delta State and Mississippi College. He averaged 23.5 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per game for the week, while going 17 of 25 from the field (.680) and 4 of 8 from deep, while finishing 9 of 11 at the line. In over 73 minutes of action, Wallace pulled down 23 rebounds, dished out six assists and registered one block.
Against Delta State, Wallace dropped 22 points on 8 of 11 from the field, 1 of 3 from deep and 5 of 7 from the line, while adding 17 rebounds to secure his team-leading 12th double-double of the season. He followed that performance with 25 points versus Mississippi College, finishing 9 of 14 from the field, 3 of 5 from downtown and 4 of 4 from the line.
Wallace and the Blazers return home to host Christian Brothers on Thursday at 8 p.m. at The Complex for the annual Play4Kay/Pink Out game, while VSU will entertain Union on Saturday at 4 p.m. for Senior Day. The Blazers enter the week with a 16-8 record overall and an 11-7 mark in Gulf South Conference play and currently sit fifth in the league standings with four games to play.
