VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State volleyball team will be hosting at The Complex this weekend for two GSC matchups. The first one is on Friday against Montevallo at 5 p.m. and the second on Saturday will be played against UAH at 2 p.m.
The match on Friday will be the Blazers' Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Out, the following day will be Youth Day.
Valdosta State is now 11-8 overall and 5-2 in conference play after securing two consecutive sweeps against Christian Brothers and Union this past weekend.
Eva LaRochelle leads the Blazers still with 186 kills this season with an average of 2.82 kills per set. Paola Aviles has contributed 118 kills and Kinsley Timmons landed 99 kills with a .250 hitting percentage.
Avery Mullins has recorded 491 assists while in charge of the VSU offense and is averaging 7.33 assists per set. Defensively, Eimy Negron Domenech has been the backbone of the back row with 376 digs, averaging 5.61 digs per set.
As a team, VSU is currently averaging 12.6 kills and 19.6 digs per set while accumulating 109 service aces and 107 total blocks this season.
Scouting The Falcons:
Montevallo will be entering the match with a 11-6 overall record and 4-3 in conference play. The Falcons are currently averaging 12.4 kills per set and have a .204 team hitting percentage.
Katie Wilkerson is leading the attack with 189 kills and averages 2.95 kills per set. Eliza Tyrrell comes next with 166 kills and Mallory Hulsey has recorded 116.
Blakeley Robbins runs the Falcons' offensive plays, accumulating 346 assists and Lily Erdal has record 286 assists.
Montevallo has also been effective from the service line, having recorded 125 service aces. Ava Wind has the most for the Falcons with 23 and Lily Singleton has 21.
In a defensive effort, Wind has led the team with 313 digs and Singleton has also contributed at the net with 34 blocks.
Scouting The Chargers:
The Chargers enter the weekend with a 14-2 record overall and stand 6-1 in conference play. They have been one of the top offensive and defensive teams in GSC so far, having a team hitting percentage of .218 and averaging 13.1 kills and 2.5 blocks per set.
Kayla Ward is leading the Chargers with 156 kills with a .411 hitting percentage for the season. Ella Schumacher has contributed 152 kills and Cooper Garrett has landed 138 kills while providing the team with 342 assists.
UAH have also shown strong defensive performances, managing an average of 16.5 digs per set and totaling 151 blocks. Brooklyn Stiles has the most digs for the Chargers with 256 and Mary Grace Bundrant leads the Chargers with 68 blocks. The Chargers on quite the win streak, having won their last six matches.
