ALBANY, Ga. - The Valdosta State Blazers continue their fall schedule at the Hurricane Invitational hosted by Doublegate Country Club.
The tournament will be played in a 54-hole format with 36-holes played on Monday and the final 18 played on Tuesday. The field includes 14 Division II teams with Columbus State, Mississippi Christian, Delta State, Georgia Southwestern, Wingate, USC-Beaufort, Palm Beach Atlantic, Nova Southeastern, Florida Southern, Carson-Newman, Lincoln Memorial, Georgia College and State, and Emmanuel College.
11 of the teams in the tournament are either ranked or receiving votes in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek DII Coaches poll. With Florida Southern being the No.1 team with 14 first-place votes.
The Blazers lineup features the senior trio of Adam Waller,
William Carestam and
Alexander Nilehn. Sophomore
Jimmy Cohen will make his season debut, Freshman
David Wagner will also return to the lineup. Finally, Sophomore
Kaleb Shiver and Senior
William Ekeroth will compete as independents.
Valdosta State is coming off a win in their last outing, as they swept the Dunning Invitational, winning the team title by -16 and freshman Jonah Nacional posting a score of -13 to win the individual title in his collegiate debut.
Nilehn finished tied for fourth with a score of four under par. Followed by Waller who placed tied for ninth at even. Carestam came in tied for 14th at one over, and finally Wagner and Shiver finished tied for 45th and 49th respectively.
The Blazers return to Doublegate Country Club after finishing 13th in last season's tournament. Where Nilehn was the highest individual finisher for the team placing tied for 37th at eight over.
