VALDOSTA, Ga. – Sarah Hudson scored a brace and Valdosta State beat Christian Brothers 4-0 on Senior Day Friday.
Valdosta State (6-5-3, 5-3-2 GSC) outshot the Buccaneers 28-8 at the VSU Soccer Complex and put 16 shots on goal to Christian Brothers' four.
Christian Brothers goalkeeper Kaylee Allen kept it scoreless for most of the first half, making six saves as Valdosta State took 15 shots and earned five corner kicks. Hudson broke through in the 41st minute with an assist from Samantha Stauter.
The Blazers pulled away early in the second half. Jenni McIntosh made it 2-0 in the 50th minute off a pass from Gabriela Marshall, her third goal of the season. Hudson completed her brace in the 62nd minute, assisted by Ella Scerbo. Ameliah Dixon closed the scoring in the 78th minute, her third goal of the year, set up by Ava DeChellis.
Hudson's 10 goals this season tie her for third in program history for a single season, matching Riley Tennant's totals in 2017 and 2019. They also rank fourth in the GSC. She is fourth in the league in points (22) and shots on goal (22) and fifth in shots (34).
Alannah Zander made four saves in 72 minutes to earn the win, and Adrienne Cardona-Colon played the final 18 minutes as the two combined for the shutout.
The win moved Valdosta State to 17 points, fifth in the GSC standings and one point behind fourth-place Delta State, which has finished its regular season. The top four seeds host quarterfinals Nov. 1. The Blazers, who clinched a tournament berth Oct. 17, can earn a home match with a win or tie Tuesday at Trevecca. Valdosta State beat Delta State 3-2 earlier this season, which would give it the tiebreaker if the teams finish level.
The semifinals are Nov. 6 and the championship is Nov. 8 at the Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex in Huntsville, Ala.
