Lady Blazers Drop Game to UWA in Livingston

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Valdosta State women's basketball team fell 71–49 on the road at West Alabama on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Lady Blazers to 9-10 overall and 6-7 in Gulf South Conference play, while the Tigers improved to 9-8 overall and 7-6 in GSC action.

West Alabama built a considerable advantage early, taking a 21-14 lead after one quarter and extending it in the second to grab a 43-31 lead at the break. Valdosta State battled but shot uncharacteristically inefficient from the floor and though they were able to cut into the margin at times, the Tigers maintained control through the final minutes.

Freshman Chardae Rumph led the Lady Blazers with 12 points, pacing VSU's scoring effort in the contest. Sophomore Alina Martin added 11 points, while freshman Rebecca Souverain chipped in six off the bench for Valdosta State. Junior Alina Sapilak contributed two points, and sophomore Ka'Miah Pryor scored six.

Junior Erin Whalen finished with four points, eight rebounds and five assists in the effort, while sophomore Raeanne Eccleston added four points. Senior Aryana Hicks tallied four points and an assist in the game.

West Alabama was led by Nailah Mayes, who finished with 18 points on efficient shooting, while Haley Nichols added 15 and Bellah Machen chipped in 13 to help pace the Tigers.
