Lady Blazers Run Away from Lady Bucs in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Valdosta State women's basketball team (7-8, 4-5 Gulf South Conference) ran away in the second half to earn a 73–53 road victory over Christian Brothers (3-11, 0-8 GSC) on Sunday afternoon.

Valdosta State led 30–17 at halftime before opening the third quarter with a strong stretch to extend the margin. The Lady Blazers scored 24 points in the third quarter and never allowed Christian Brothers to cut the deficit to single digits the rest of the way.

Junior Erin Whalen recorded her seventh double-double in the last eight games, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three steals. Whalen closed out her week as the reigning D2CIDA/WBCA National Player of the Week by shooting 8-of-17 from the field and impacting the win on both ends of the floor.

Sophomore Raeanne Eccleston put together her best game as a Lady Blazer with a double-double of her own on 15 points and 12 rebounds. The reigning GSC Freshman of the Week, Chardae Rumph, added 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Senior Aryana Hicks finished with eight points and four assists, continuing to facilitate the VSU offense and lead the GSC in assists.

Junior Alina Sapilak provided a spark off the bench, knocking down all three of her attempts from beyond the arc to finish with nine points. Sophomore Ka'Miah Pryor added five points in the win.

Christian Brothers was led by Donee' Frazier with 19 points, while Anastasija Cernova posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The Lady Blazers continue their push through the heart of conference play at the Complex on Thursday, Jan. 15th at 6 p.m. when they host Montevallo. The team will also host AUM on Saturday, Jan. 17th at 2 p.m. next week. Show up at the Complex and be loud to support your Lady Blazers!
