VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State volleyball team returns home to the Complex to host Auburn Montgomery on Tuesday, Sept. 30
th at 6 p.m. ET after a successful road trip to the Volunteer State. The Blazers swept Christian Brothers and Union on back-to-back days this weekend to move to 2-1 in Gulf South Conference play.
The Warhawks hold an 8-7 advantage over the history of the matchup, but the Blazers claimed victories in both of last season's contests. VSU battled for a 3-2 road victory in Montgomery and swept AUM in three sets at the Complex last season. Sophomore setter
Avery Mullins recorded 57 assists and three kills over the two contests in 2024. Senior
Katie Callenberger tallied 15 kills and six blocks over the same two matches.
The Blazers (3-9) are coming off a strong weekend with several encouraging performances over last week's three GSC matches. Mullins tallied 76 assists, 38 digs, ten kills, and two service aces over the week. Her seven kills at Christian Brothers were a career-high mark. Senior
Ava Young recorded eight total blocks without registering an error. Young also totaled 12 kills at a .235 clip.
Madison Kilmer continued her impactful freshman campaign, notching 25 kills and four total blocks including a career-high 15 kills versus No. 17 West Florida.
Junior
Asia Montagnani continued to carve out a role in the offense in her first season as a Blazer. Her 26 kills were the most by a Blazer over the week and her .263 clip was the most efficient mark on the team. Sophomore
Eva LaRochelle made a bit of a breakout effort over the weekend in Tennessee. She set her season-high with six kills on Friday then marked another new high with nine on Saturday. Freshman
Ava Keuntjes started at libero, notching 47 digs and posting a team-high four service aces over last week.
The Warhawks (1-9) dropped two matches last week to open Gulf South Conference play at West Alabama in three sets and at Mississippi College in five. The AUM offense is led in kills by senior Kendall McCain (90). She is followed closely by fellow senior Anyaliz Rodriguez with 84. Kiara Vega's 162 assists pace the Warhawk offense. UAM is led defensively by junior libero Taylor Lewis with 115 digs. Courtney Joseph and Jaslyn Montgomery tie to lead the team with 16 blocks each.
VSU vs UAM is the first of three home GSC volleyball matches that the Blazers will host this week. The Blazers take on UAH on Friday, Oct. 3
rd at 6 p.m. ET. They will then shift their focus to Montevallo on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
