CLEVELAND, Tenn. – A goal by Lee's Alaysia Nye just five minutes into the contest proved to be enough as Lee defeated the Valdosta State women's soccer team 1-0 Friday evening in a Gulf South Conference match.
With the loss, the Blazers fell to 1-3-3 on the year and 0-2 in GSC play, while Lee improved to 4-1-1 and 2-1 in leaue play.
The Blazers finsihed with seven shots and none on target, while Lee had eight shots and five on frame. Blazer senior goalkeeper
Claire Timberlake had four saves in the match, while sophomore
Maria Rojas had two shots as did sophomore
Sydney Foy.
For the Lady Flames, Nye scored her sixth goal of the season and finished with just the one shot, while Grace Berry and Avery Sides each had assists.
Nye scored on the first shot attempt by either team for the 1-0 lead 5:00 into the match. Rojas had a pair of shots for the Blazers and senior
Katherine Kimmel also had a look, but her shot sailed right of the net all in the first 20 minutes. Neither team had an attempt the rest of the half.
Blazer sophomore
Jenni McIntosh had a shot at the 51:32 mark, but it went high. Later in the half, VSU staved off three-straight corner kick attempts by the Lady Flames. VSU had three late chances with two shots from Foy and one from junior
Kayleigh Kearns.
The Blazers will look to rebound on Sunday in a 2 p.m. ET match at Trevecca Nazarene. Check back with vstateblazers.com for links to live stats and streaming of the match.
