Blazer Women’s Soccer Travels to The Volunteer State for Two Matches

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's soccer team returns to the road this week as it travels to The Volunteer State to face Lee University and Trevecca Nazarene.  The Blazers and Lee are set for a 5 p.m. kick on Friday, followed by a Sunday at 2 p.m. ET start at Trevecca Nazarene.

The Blazers enter with a 1-2-3 record overall and a 0-1 mark in Gulf South Conference play, following very up-and-down performances last week with a 0-0 tie to then-No. 8 Embry-Riddle and a disappointing 4-0 loss in the GSC opener against Montevallo.  
 
This season, junior Taylor Youmans leads the team with two goals as she has nine shots (.222) with five on target (.556) and the one game winner.  Sophomore Maria Rojas has one goal on a team-high 14 shots (.071) and seven on frame (.500), while sophomore Anna Dandeneau has one assist for the season.  In goal, senior Claire Timberlake has a 1-2-3 record with two shutouts and a 1.74 goals against average in 516:24 minutes.  She has 30 saves with ten goals against and faced 72 shots.  Freshman Adrienne Cardona-Colon has played in two matches for 23:36 minutes.  
 
Head coach Stephen Andrew is 67-55-17 as the winningest coach in Blazer women's soccer history in his ninth season in Titletown.  He is 51-36-10 in GSC play.  Andrew is in his 19th season overall of coaching with a 207-110-26 record at VSU, Huntingdon College and Piedmont College.  
 
Lee enters with a 3-1-1 record overall and a 1-1 mark in GSC play after the Flames dropped a 2-0 decision at The University of Alabama in Huntsville last Friday and won 2-1 at West Alabama on Sunday.  Against UWA, Lee scored two goals in the first half for a 2-0 lead as UWA closed within 2-1 with a goal in the 79th minute.  Lee held a 15-11 lead in shots and a 3-2 advantage in shots on target.  
 
The Flames have scored 11 goals on the year with nine assists and 31 points.  Lee has 74 shots (.149) with 31 on target (.419) and has gone 1 of 1 in penalty kicks.  Alaysia Nye leads the team and the GSC with five goals on 13 shots with seven on target and two game winners, which also lead are tied for the league-lead.  Six other players have one goal each, while Grace Berry and Megan Davis lead the team with two assists each.  In goal, Abby Whitcomb has logged all 450 minutes with a 1.40 GAA, allowing seven goals with 15 saves and one shutout, while facing 45 shots.  
 
Lee leads the all-time series with VSU 11-2 and has gone 5-0-2 in the last seven meetings dating back to a 2-0 win by VSU on Nov. 7, 2019.   The teams tied 1-1 during the regular season in Valdosta on Nov. 6, 2024, while Lee won 5-1 in the first round of the GSC Championship in Cleveland, Tenn., last season on Nov. 10.  The Flames are under the direction of second-year head coach Lee Hughes as he was 7-5-6 in 2024 and 6-2-4 in GSC play last season.  
 
Trevecca Nazarene enters the week with a 2-3-1 record overall and a 0-1-1 record in GSC play after a 0-0 tie at West Alabama and a 2-0 loss at home to UAH last week.  Anna Farrell leads the team with two goals scored and one assist for five points.  She has a team-high 16 shots with seven on goal and one game winner.  Lainey Callis, Noelle Garcia and Kayelee Maners each have one goal on the year, while Hannah Case and Cassie Groves have one assist each. TNU has six goals scored and three assists for 15 points, while recording 77 shots with 31 on target and two game winners.  In goal, Baillie Fiore is 2-3-1 on the year with two shutouts and a 1.50 GAA in 540 minutes.  She has allowed nine goals with 18 saves and faced 85 shots.  Matheus Mello is in his first season at the helm of the Trojans. 
 
This marks the Blazers first trip to Trevecca Nazarene in program history as VSU won the only previous meeting last season in Valdosta, 4-2, on Oct. 17, 2024.  In that match, TNU scored two goals within the first 4:18 of the match, but the Blazers answered with a score just over a minute later for a 2-1 deficit at halftime.  In the second half, VSU scored three goals for the 4-2 win as VSU outshot TNU 15-7 and 9-6 in shots on goal.
