Blazers Fall 4-0 in GSC Opener Saturday Afternoon

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Four, first half goals proved to be too much as visiting Montevallo posted a 4-0 victory over Valdosta State in the 2025 Gulf South Conference opener for the Blazers Saturday afternoon.

The Blazers fell to 1-2-3 on the year and 0-1 in GSC play, while Montevallo improved to 3-2 on the year and 2-0 in GSC play.  The Falcons outshot VSU 16-10 and 9-6 in shots on goal.

Montevallo had the early pressure and Lainey Farabaugh scored with an assist from Goehring just 6:44 into the contest.  After a corner kick, Goehring was in the right place at the right time following a rebound in the box for her first goal of the half at the 13:10 mark.  Goehring continued her strong play and drove down the field for her second goal of the half at the 24:54 mark and a 3-0 Falcon lead.  Later in the half, Ayla Ertekin scored at the 29:16 mark with Goehring's second assist and a 4-0 lead.

For the half UM had nine shots with five on frame and four goals, while VSU had five shots and two on target from freshman Sofia Anzini and freshman Isabelle Allen.  Blazer goalkeeper senior Claire Timberlake had one save, while UM netminder Jolie Cazale had two saves. Goehring had four shots, two on goal, two goals and two assists in the half.

The teams played to a scoreless draw in the second half as both squads used much of their benches due to the hot and humid conditions and for experience.  Blazer senior Katherine Kimmel finished with two shots and one on frame, while Timberlake had four saves in the second half for five for the match.  Freshman goalkeeper Adrienne Cardona-Colon finished the final 12:27 of the match between the pipes.

Goehring finished with five shots, two on goal, two scores and two assists.  Farabaugh had three shots with one on target and a goal, while Ertekin scored on her only shot.  Cazale had six saves and a clean sheet for the Falcons.

The Blazers return to the road next week at Lee and Trevecca Nazarene and then on the road the following week, before returning home for four-straight beginning Oct. 10 against Spring Hill College at 7 p.m.
