Blazer Women’s Soccer Drops 4-0 Decision at Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision at Georgia College on Thursday evening.  The Bobcats scored one goal in the first half and tacked on three more in the second.  
 
The Blazers (0-1-2) finished with 12 shots and five on goal, while GC had 15 shots and ten on target.  Sophomore Maria Rojas led the team with three shots and one on goal, while junior Taylor Youmans added two shots with one on frame and as did sophomore Anna Dandeneau.  Blazer senior goalkeeper Claire Timberlake finished with six saves in 79 minutes, while freshman Adrienne Cardona-Colon got her first collegiate action between the pipes for the final 11 minutes of the contest.
 
GC (1-1-1) was led by Kaisa Fargerstrom with two goals and two shots, while Sarah Mason added one goal with three shots and two on frame and Mackenzley Cheely had one goal with three shots and two on target.  Jenni Jarventaus had two of the Bobcats' four assists.  GC finished with five saves in a combined shutout in the net.  
 
The Bobcats scored the game winner as Cheeley scored with an assist from Mason off a throw in from the right to the right post at the 14:43 mark in the first half.  The game remained 1-0 at intermission as VSU had six shots in the first period with two on frame, while GC had seven shots and the one on frame by Cheeley for the score. 
 
GC used a goal from Fargerstrom at the 48:14 mark just 3:14 into the second half for a 2-0 lead and she scored again at the 60:23 mark.  Just under four minutes later, Mason scored at the 64:45 mark for the 4-0 lead.  
 
VSU continues on the road on Sunday at 6 p.m. at Georgia Southwestern.  The Blazers then return home to host No. 8 Embry-Riddle next Wednesday at 6 p.m., followed by opening Gulf South Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 3 p.m. versus Montevallo.
