VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State men's and women's cross country teams are set to hit the road this Friday, Sept. 12, as they head to the Falcon Classic hosted by the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Ala. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. ET with a 5K, followed by the men's 8K race scheduled for 9:15 p.m. ET.
This meet comes just a week after a strong showing at the VSU Border Clash, where the Blazers put their early-season training to the test on the Freedom Park course. At the Border Clash, Blazer sophomore standout
Nick Waddell grabbed a runner-up finish, clocking in at 25:00.8 over the 7.25K course. Valdosta State secured second place overall in the team standings with 50 points. Demonstrating impressive depth with freshman
James Wilkerson who finished seventh (26:25.2) and junior
Caleb Tilford placed 13th (26:55.9).
The Blazer women's team also made waves in the Border Clash, with sophomore
Ella Burnett pacing the squad in ninth place at 21:24.8. The Blazer women's team claimed third overall, finishing with 86 points—just ahead of Albany State, Gulf Coast State College, and FSCJ.
Following Friday's race, VSU will have a training week before heading to Tallahassee, Fla., to compete in the Florida State Invitational on Friday, Sept. 26.
