OXFORD, Ala. – The Valdosta State softball season came to an end Thursday afternoon with a 3-0 loss to Trevecca Nazarene in an elimination game in the Gulf South Conference Championship at Choccolocco Park.
The Blazers finish the season with a 26-25 record, while Trevecca improves to 28-18. VSU finished with three hits and one error in the game, while TNU had three runs on six hits and no errors.
Trevecca used back-to-back doubles from Madison Pruitt and Maddie Poschke for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. In the top of the fourth, junior
Rachael Lee singled to left center for the Blazers' second hit of the game, but it would be for not as TNU pitcher Ashlan Sensing got out of the inning with a pair of foul outs.
The Trojans added a run in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of a hit batsmen, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single from Poschke. TNU added another run in the sixth with a leadoff infield single from Brianna Asmondy who then stole third and scored on a throwing error for a 3-0 lead.
Down to their final three outs, Lee began the top of the seventh with a single down the right field line. Sensing came back with two outs and senior
Carly Bogart walked bringing the potential tying run to the plate in junior
Jayme Prandine. On a 1-2 count, Prandine flied out to right field for the final out.
Lee finished 2 of 3 from the plate for VSU, while Bogart was 1 of 2 with a walk. Graduate pitcher
Claire Maulding (20-16) took the loss. She allowed six hits, three earned runs and fanned one.
Sensing (21-9) went all seven innings, allowing three hits, walked two and fanned four. Poschke was 2 for 2 with a double and two RBI, while Pruitt was 2 for 2 with a double and a run scored for the Trojans.
VSU now is 78-53 all-time in the GSC Championship and has appeared in the championship the most of any team current or former as it marked the 35
th trip conference postseason tournament in 2025.
