VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Gulf South Conference regular season champion Valdosta State men's tennis team had four players named to the All-GSC Teams, while freshman Julien Doitteau was named Freshman of the Year and head coach John Hansen was named Coach of the Year, the league office announced Wednesday evening.
 
Earning first team honors were seniors Boruch Skierkier and Takeshi Taco as both earned first team honors last year, while senior Edgar Destouet earned first team honors in his first season playing for the red and black.  Junior Jan Skerbatis earned second team honors.  Doitteau became the first Blazer to be named Freshman of the Year since Florian Simbozel in 2018.  Doitteau is the 11^th Blazer to be named Freshman of the Year since the award began in 1986.  
 
Hansen, who has been at the helm of the Blazer program for over 50 years, earned his 15^th Coach of the Year honor for the men's program and third in the last five years.  Earlier this month Hansen was announced as a member of the GSC Hall Fame Class of 2025.  Hansen's induction marks the seventh-straight class of a Blazer being enshrined into the Hall of Fame, with Marti Littlefield (softball) in 2018, Dusty Bonner (football) in 2019, Morgan Faulk (softball) in 2020, Briny Baird (men's golf) in 2022, Kenny Moore II (football) and Courtney Albritton Johnson (softball) in 2023, retired Director of Athletics Herb Reinhard in 2024 and now Hansen in 2025.  
 
Former VSU baseball coach Tommy Thomas was inducted in 2015 and former Blazer quarterback and head coach Chris Hatcher was enshrined in the inaugural class in 2014 for ten total Blazers now in the GSC Hall of Fame.
 
This season, Hansen has guided the men's program to an undefeated record at 17-0 and a perfect 8-0 in GSC play, while the team has won 33-straight matches dating back to the final 16 victories last season as the program won its third national title in 2024.  The 17-0 record marked the second undefeated regular season for the Blazers in the past three years (2023).
 
Doitteau, a native of Paris, France, is 10-2 in singles this year and 9-2 this spring while he is 5-1 in GSC Play.  Doitteau has earned GSC Freshman of the Week six times this season.  This spring, Doitteau is 7-2 at the No. 5 spot, while he is 2-0 at the No. 6 spot.  He defeated then-No. 67 Alex Maulouet of West Florida 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 to give VSU a 3-2 lead in a 5-2 win over the No. 1 Argos on Mar. 7, handing UWF its only loss of the season.
 
Taco, ranked No. 3 nationally, is 19-1 this season in singles and is 14-3 with senior teammate Xaveam Van Wijk in doubles as the duo is ranked ninth nationally.  Taco, a native of Lima, Peru, won the ITA Fall National Championship in 2024 for singles downing Ouachita Baptist's and No. 1-ranked Phil Exner, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.  Taco is 9-1 in singles this spring and went 4-0 in GSC play, while he went 9-1 in doubles this spring and 2-1 in GSC play.  He earned GSC Player of the Week honors twice this season.
 
In 2024, he earned ITA All-America honors in singles as did Skierkier.  Taco is 33-4 in his two seasons at VSU in singles, while he is 49-14 in doubles.  In GSC play, he is 12-1 in singles for his career and 7-4 in doubles. 
 
Skierkier, a native of Clorinda, Formosa, Argentina, is fourth nationally in singles with a 24-3 record this year, while he is 13-1 this spring and 6-1 in GSC play.  In doubles, Skierkier is 14-6 with Skerbatis this year while the duo is 12-2 this spring and 5-2 in league play.  Skierkier was named GSC Player of the Week twice this season.  For his career, Skierkier 54-4 in singles and 14-1 in GSC play, while he is 34-9 in doubles and 12-3 in conference play.  
 
Destouet, ranked 22^nd nationally, is 22-1 in singles this year and 16-0 in this spring, while going 7-0 in GSC play.  A native of Bordeaux, France, Destouet and graduate teammate Arthur Bord are 16-4 in doubles and ranked seventh nationally.  The duo is 11-3 in doubles this spring and 7-0 in GSC play.  He earned GSC Player of the Week honors once this season.
 
Skerbatis, a native of Koenigsbrunn, Germany, is 14-3 this year in singles and 14-6 with Skierkier in doubles.  For Skerbatis' career at VSU, he is 28-11 in singles and 37-9 in doubles.
 
The Blazers open their title defense of the GSC Championship on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. ET in Montgomery, Ala., at Lagoon Park versus No. 8-seed Christian Brothers.
