VALDOSTA, Ga. – In a makeup match from earlier in the season, the No. 3 Valdosta State men's tennis team posted a 6-1 victory over No. 28 Georgia College Friday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Complex. VSU finished the regular season 17-0 marking the second time in three years the Blazers have gone undefeated during the regular season.
Prior to the match, VSU honored five seniors playing in their final regular season match for VSU. The 2025 senior class included;
Arthur Bord,
Edgar Destouet,
Boruch Skierkier,
Takeshi Taco and
Xaveam Van Wijk. VSU Athletics wishes each of these seniors the best in their future endeavors.
VSU made quick work of the Bobcats in doubles as No. 7 duo of Destouet and Bord downed Noe Villen and Luka Sauer Jimenez, 6-1, while No. 9 tandem of Taco and Van Wijk defeated Rodrigo Perez Crespo and Chase Martin, 6-3. Skierkier and junior
Jan Skerbatis were up 5-4 win the point was clinched.
Heading to singles, Van Wijk won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 over Thomas Brewer for a 2-0 lead, while Taco, ranked third nationally, won 6-2, 6-4 over Martin at the top spot and Skierkier, ranked No. 4 nationally, clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 over Perez Crespo. Destouet, ranked No. 22 nationally, won 6-0, 7-5 at No. 3 for a 5-0 lead.
Georgia College's (13-5) Gabe Cizek won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5 over freshman
Julien Doitteau and sophomore
Jerome Iaconi won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 4 for the 6-1 win.
The Blazers, who also went undefeated in Gulf South Conference action this season with an 8-0 record, now turn their attention to defending their GSC Championship title as they begin postseason play on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. ET versus No. 8-seed Christian Brothers in Montgomery, Ala., at the Lagoon Park and O'Connor Tennis Center.
VSU's win on Friday was the Blazers' 33
rd-straight victory dating back to the final 16 matches of last season.
