Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 2 Blazers Win 4-0 on the Road at No. 20 Embry-Riddle Tuesday Afternoon

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The No. 2-ranked Valdosta State men's tennis team posted a 4-0 win at No. 20 Embry-Riddle on Tuesday afternoon for its 16th win of the season improving to 16-0 on the year, while ERAU fell to 13-6.

The Blazers now have won 32-straight matches dating back to last season.  VSU returns home for a makeup match on Friday at 2 p.m. at the VSU Tennis Complex versus No. 35 Georgia College for Senior Day and the final regular season match of the season.

VSU got things started with a win from junior Jan Skerbatis and senior Boruch Skierkier at No. 3 doubles over Pranav Kumar and Joshua Nuyts, 6-0.  ERAU used a 6-3 upset win over No. 13-ranked duo of senior Edgar Destouet and graduate student Arthur Bord at No. 2, but eighth-ranked tandem of seniors Xaveam Van Wijk and Takeshi Taco won 6-3 at the top spot over Wilson Igbinovia and Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo to claim the team point.

In singles, Destouet, ranked No. 21 nationally posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Nuyts at No. 3, while Taco, ranked No. 2 nationally, won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 singles over Enrico Rosellini for a 3-0 lead.  Skierkier, ranked fourth nationally, posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over No. 46 Igbinovia to clinch the match, 4-0.  Taco was playing in his first match since Mar. 24 in singles and Mar. 19 in doubles.

Diaz Rodrigo, ranked No. 74 nationally, won the first set at No. 4 singles over sophomore Jerome Iaconi, 6-4 and was leading in the second set 4-2 when the match was clinched.

Due to not enough courts, all six men's and women's singles matches were unable to be played at the same time as junior Jan Skerbatis and freshman Julien Doitteau, playing Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, didn't start playing due to VSU clinching the match.
