PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 2-ranked Valdosta State men's tennis team posted a convincing 7-0 victory Thursday over West Alabama Thursday afternoon to claim the outright Gulf South Conference regular season title.
The Blazers improved to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in Gulf South Conference play with the win as they now have won 30-straight matches dating back to last season. VSU won its fifth outright league regular season title since 2010 and tied for the regular season title in 2024. Since 2019, VSU has either won or tied for the league regular season title five times.
UWA fell to 6-10 overall and 2-5 in GSC play.
The Blazers won two of the three doubles matches to get things started, winning the team point as No. 13-ranked duo of senior

Arthur Bord won 6-3 over No. 14-ranked tandem of Tomas Almeida and Alfonso Portugal at the top spot. Shortly after, junior

Boruch Skierkier won 6-3 over Jacob Tapia and Sebastiao Vilas. UWA duo of Eita Ishikawa and Caden Goldammer downed sophomore

Xaveam Van Wijk, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot.
Destouet, ranked No. 21 in singles, dropped just three games in a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Ishikawa for a 2-0 lead. Van Wijk won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 over Alejandro Flores for a 3-0 lead and freshman
Julien Doitteau clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles over Goldammer. Skerbatis won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 over Vilas and sophomore
Jerome Iaconi won 6-3, 6-3 over Almeida at No. 3. No. 4-ranked Skierkier held off a furious rally by Portugal in the first set as Skierkier won 7-6 (7-3) and then won 6-1 in the second set for the clean sweep.
The Blazers return home to host No. 11 Florida Southern on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the VSU Tennis Complex. VSU then hits the road for a match at Embry-Riddle on Tuesday at 2 p.m., before closing the regular season on Apr. 18 at home versus Georgia College in a makeup match from earlier in the season.
