VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State men's tennis team remained No. 1 in the newest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, announced Wednesday afternoon.
The Blazers (1-0) defeated Montevallo 6-1 on Friday, Feb. 7 in the season-opener for both teams as it was the 17
th-straight victory for the Blazers dating back to last season. Following VSU in the rankings is Gulf South Conference rival Wet Florida, followed by Flagler, Washburn (Kan.) and South Region foe Barry rounds out the top five.
Saint Leo, who VSU hosts on Friday at 3 p.m. at the VSU Tennis Complex, is sixth, followed by Rollins, Columbus State, Indianapolis and Wingate rounds out the top ten. Embry-Riddle sits 12
th, while Florida Southern is 14
th and Mississippi College is 17
th among other teams ranked in the GSC or the South Region.
As stated above the Blazer men's and women's tennis teams host Saint Leo on Friday at 3 p.m. The Blazer men defeated Saint Leo twice last season, once in the regular season and then in the NCAA Division II National Semifinals in Altamonte Springs, Fla., as VSU won its third national title in men's tennis with a 4-3 win over Flagler the following day.
