DADE CITY, Fla. – The No. 32 Valdosta State men's golf team fired a 9-under 279 in the second round of the 2025 Saint Leo Invitational and is tied for sixth head into the final round Tuesday morning. VSU carded a 574 score on rounds of 295 and 279 on Monday. Blazer senior
Chase Long sits second with rounds of 68 and 67 for a 9-under 135.
Long carded 14 birdies combined for the two rounds to lead the field and had just three bogeys and one double bogey. His 9-under ties the school-record for the lowest 36-hole score by a Blazer in program history as Brent Witcher also was 9-under at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate in 2008-09.
The 279 in the second round is tied for second all-time in school history for the lowest single round. VSU carded a 278 at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate in 2008-09, while the Blazers had 279s in both the Dennis Rose in 2008-09 and most recently at The Kaiwah Island Invitational in 2019-20.
For the two rounds today, Florida Southern's Colton Swartz leads the field with a 10-under 134, while Barry's Giorgio Celani is 7-under at 137. There is a four-way tie for fourth at 4-under 140.
No. 43-ranked Barry leads the 18-team field with a 16-under 560, followed by a tie for second between host Saint Leo and No. 12 Florida Southern at 9-under 567. No. 8 Lee sits fourth at 8-under 568, followed by No. 19 Rollins at 3-under 573. VSU and No. 42 Montevallo are tied for sixth at 2-under 574. Tampa sits eighth at 577, followed by a tie for ninth between No. 23 Nova Southeastern and Carson-Newman at 581.
