VALDOSTA, Ga. – Coming off a 49-40 win at Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday, the Valdosta State women's basketball team returns home to host Delta State on Thursday at 6 p.m. at The Complex for the annual Pink Game and Saturday versus Mississippi College at 2 p.m.

VSU improved to 13-9 overall and 8-8 in Gulf South Conference play with the win at Trevecca as the Lady Blazers went 2-1 on the road trip. VSU dropped a 59-44 decision at Lee last Thursday and won 75-69 in overtime at West Florida on Feb. 1. The Lady Statesmen enter the week with a 12-11 record overall and an 8-9 mark in GSC play. Mississippi College sits at 13-10 overall and 9-8 in league play and will play at West Florida on Thursday, before heading to Valdosta for Saturday's matchup.
With just three weeks remaining in the regular season, the Lady Blazers currently sit sixth in the league standings, while Mississippi College sits a half-game ahead of VSU and Delta State, Montevallo and Auburn Montgomery all sit a half game behind. Union leads the standings with a 15-1 mark in GSC play, while Alabama Huntsville is 14-3, followed by Lee (13-4) and West Florida is 10-6. The top eight teams in the final regular season standings qualify for the GSC postseason tournament, beginning Tuesday, Mar. 4 on campus sites, and culminating with the semifinals and championship in Birmingham, Ala., Mar. 8-9.
Against Trevecca, the Lady Blazers used a double-double from sophomore
Erin Whalen, her seventh of the season, with ten points and 13 rebounds, while senior
Jacey Justice added ten points and senior
Kiersten Nelson finished with nine points, six rebounds and three blocks. VSU held TNU to just 26.1 percent from the field on 12 of 46 from the field, while holding a 24-6 advantage in points off turnovers with VSU forcing 19 miscues by the Trojans to just 13 for the Lady Blazers. VSU held a 16-7 lead through the first quarter and used a 16-12 advantage in the third quarter for the win.
Delta State dropped a 56-50 decision at home to Alabama Huntsville and won 74-58 over West Alabama last week. The Lady Statesmen are led by Grace Watson who is averaging 10.4 points per game on 88 of 168 from the field (.524). She has made a team-best 63 free throws in 92 attempts (.685) and leads the team averaging 7.7 rebounds per game. Watson has a team-high 28 blocks for the season. Wakiryah Daniels is second in scoring at 9.5 points per game, while Madi Kate Vuncannon leads the team from distance, going 51 of 133 from beyond the arc (.383).
VSU posted a 60-58 overtime victory with a bucket at the buzzer from Nelson on Jan. 4, 2025, in the first meeting this season. Four Lady Blazers scored in double figures in the game led by Nelson with 17 off the bench, Whalen had ten points and ten rebounds, while junior

Aryana Hicks added 11. The game saw 11 ties and six leads changes. VSU now has won seven-straight games in the series, while DSU leads the all-time series 41-18. The Lady Blazers have won the last four in Valdosta and eight of the last 14.
Mississippi College defeated West Alabama 78-65 on the road and dropped an 80-72 overtime heartbreaker to UAH last Saturday. The Choctaws are led by. Tytiana Buckley who averages 12.8 points per game is 88 of 229 from the field (.384). She is a team-best 31 of 103 from deep (.301) and 75 of 90 from the line (.883). Buckley averages a team-high 5.5 rebounds per game. Tiara Abron leads the team in made field goals with 104 on 239 attempts (.435) and is second in scoring at 12.2 points per game.
The Choctaws outscored VSU 21-14 in the fourth quarter and 15-7 in overtime for a 73-65 win on Jan. 2, 2025, in Clinton, Miss. McMorris had 12 points for VSU, while Whalen had 10 points and 11 rebounds. VSU was just 4 of 9 from the line in the game, while MC was 20 of 27. MC snapped a streak of five-straight wins by the Lady Blazers in January. VSU owns a 25-13 record overall in the series dating back to 1977. VSU has won three-straight in Valdosta and six of nine.
This season, the Lady Blazers are led by Nelson who is averaging 14.3 points per game on 123 of 219 from the field (.562). She has a team-high 52 made free throws and is second in rebounding on the team at 5.9 rebounds per game. Nelson is tied for the team-lead in blocks with 11. Hicks is second in scoring at 11.0 points per game. She is 100 of 197 from the field (.508). She is 35 of 50 from the line (.700) and has 104 assists and 38 steals. Whalen in third in scoring at 10.3 points per game and a team-best 8.5 rebounds per game. Whalen is 96 of 236 from the field (.407) and 20 of 67 from distance (.299).
As a team, the Lady Blazers are shooting .435 from the field on 569 of 1296. VSU is 121 of 401 from distance (.402) and 214 of 38 from the line (.633). VSU is averaging 66.5 points per game and allowing 62.1, while registering 33.9 rebounds per game and allowing 31.2 per contest.
