VALDOSTA, Ga. – Blazer basketball guard Maalik Leitch and Blazer women's tennis player Alyssa Novoa have been named this week's Steel's Jewelry Athletes of the Week.
 
Maalik Leitch put together another strong weekend for VSU, as the No. 7 ranked Blazers picked up two key road victories at Lee and Trevecca Nazarene. Leitch was a spark plug off the bench, as the Atlanta native scored 23 points against Lee on 8-12 from the floor, 3-4 from deep, and a perfect 4-4 from the line in just 20 minutes of action. On Saturday, Leitch chipped in 21 points off the bench yet again as he shot 8-11 from the field, 2-3 from three, and 3-3 from the line in just 19 minutes of playing time against the Trojans. The Blazers are currently sitting in second play in the GSC, as they are firmly in the driver's seat for hosting GSC Super Tuesday on Mar. 4 at The Complex.
 
Alyssa Novoa played nearly perfect in her first match for the Blazers, as the true freshman went 2-0 against the Montevallo Falcons on Friday afternoon. The Orlando native won her doubles match with Viktoriia Fedorova 7-5 as the No. 1 doubles pairing before she won at No. 6 singles 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in a come behind victory.
