VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's basketball team will make its first road trip of the season as it travels to Lynn University for a 2 p.m. Tuesday in Boca Raton, Fla. VSU then returns home to host No. 9 Embry-Riddle on Saturday at 2 p.m. at The Complex.

The Lady Blazers enter with a 2-1 record after a disappointing 74-71 loss last Wednesday to Georgia Southwestern. In that game, VSU had 18 points from senior
Aryana Hicks and eight assists on 9 of 14 from the field as VSU shot 48.4 percent from the field for the game. She led three players in double figures. The Lady Blazers were just 1 of 9 from deep and 8 of 17 from the line which both were costly in the loss. GSW shot 51.8 percent from the field, while it was 9 of 21 from deep and 7 of 9 from the line. The game saw four lead changes and two ties.
Lynn enters with a 3-1 record overall and a 1-0 mark in the Sunshine State Conference after a 63-58 win over Rollins on Saturday. The Fighting Knights had three players in double figures led by 15 points from Katie Tiffan with a double-double with ten rebounds, while Trinity Mocadlo had 13 points and ten rebounds, along with six assists. Angelina Deleon also had 13 points. Lynn also has wins over Christian brothers (68-52) and Claflin (68-64), along with a loss to Trevecca Nazarene (86-54).
The Fighting Knights were picked fifth in the SSC Preseason Coaches' Poll and head coach Julia Tucker has a strong mix of transfers and freshman to join six returning players. VSU won last season's meeting with Lynn in Valdosta, 64-57, on Nov. 18. In that game, Hicks finished with 13 points, while current junior
Erin Whalen had 12 points and 11 rebounds. The game saw five lead changes and three ties. VSU leads the all-time series 4-1 and has won the last two meetings, including a 73-62win in Boca Raton, on Nov. 15, 2019. The Lady Blazers are 1-1 all-time at Lynn as the Fighting Knights won 65-63 at Lynn on Nov. 20, 2018.
This season Mocadlo leads the team averaging 14.0 points per game on 21 of 47 from the field (.447), while she is 10 of 22 from distance (.455). She averages a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game and has 16 assists to lead the team. Deleon is second in scoring at 10.8 points per game for the blue and white. She is 11 of 23 from the field (.478) and 7 of 13 from beyond the arc (.538), while going 14 of 21 from the line.
As a team, the Fighting Knights are shooting .378 from the field on 87 of 230 from the floor, while they are 31 of 107 from deep (.290) and 48 of 75 from the line (.640). Lynn is averaging 37.8 rebounds per game and 63.25 points per game. Conversely, the opposition is shooting .398 from the field, .304 from deep and .833 from the line, while averaging 34.3 rebounds per game and 65.0 points per game. Lynn head coach Julia Huddleston is in her 10
th season at the helm of the program and is 118-136 overall.
For VSU, the Lady Blazers have wins over Eckerd College (66-58) and Palm Beach Atlantic (62-59) this season. Whalen leads the team averaging 14.7 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per contest as she is 16 of 33 from the field (.485), 5 of 9 from distance and 7 of 10 from the line. She has nine assists and seven steals this season. Hicks is second in scoring at 14.3 points per game as she is 18 of 33 from the field (.545) and 7 of 9 from the line (.778). She has a team-high 21 assists and seven steals for the season.
As a team, the Lady Blazers are averaging 66.3 points per game and allowing 63.67 points, while the teams is shooting at a .420 clip on 79 of 188 from the field, 10 of 44 from beyond the arc (.227) and 31 of 44 from the line (.705). VSU is averaging 36.7 rebounds per game and allowing 33.3 per contest.
Following Tuesday's game, the team will return home for Thanksgiving and then host No. 9-ranked Embry-Riddle on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. at The Complex. ERAU enters with a 4-0 record and a 1-0 mark in the SSC, following an 87-55 win over Saint Leo on Saturday.
The Eagles have victories this season over Montevallo (83-38), Auburn Montgomery (85-51), Flagler (74-70) and Saint Leo (87-55). Eliana Sheplee leads the team averaging 17.8 points per game for four players in double figures. She is 24 of 49 from the field, while she is 4 of 10 from range and 19 of 20 from the line to lead the team. Mary Lengemann is second in scoring at 12.5 points per game on 20 of 38 from the field (.526), while she is 10 of 14 from the line and tied for the team-lead in rebounding at 5.8 per game. Laurie Satchell is averaging 10.8 points per game on 20 of 32 from the field (.625) and also is averaging 5.8 rebounds per game.
As a team, ERAU is shooting at a blistering .520 clip on 131 of 252 from the field, while it is 16 of 49 from deep and 51 of 70 from the line. ERAU is averaging 42.3 rebounds per game and 82.25 points per game, while holding teams to 53.5 points per game and 26.8 rebounds per contest. Head coach Lisa Wilson is in her 11
th season at the helm of the program and is 167-122 as head coach.
ERAU was picked second in the preseason SSC poll behind Tampa as the Eagles are coming off the program's most successful season in history going 27-5 last season and 17-3 in SSC play. ERAU won its first SSC championship and shared the regular season title. Satchell and Anye' Staton earned all-conference honors last season for the Eagles.
This marks the first time the two teams have met on the hardwood.
