VALDOSTA, Ga. – Lady Blazers junior guard Erin Whalen was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week this week. This was the second week of GSC weekly awards this season, the first for which the Lady Blazers were eligible. The recognition follows a 2-0 start to the season by the Lady Blazers at the South Region Crossover.

Whalen notched 17-point, 10 rebound double-doubles in both wins for a total of 34 points and 20 rebounds on the week. The Cumming, Ga. native averages 2.5 steals per game thanks in part to her four steals against Eckerd, which are tied for the most in any game by any player in the GSC this season. She also averaged 3.5 assists over the two contests. Whalen's big effort was highlighted by a go-ahead clutch three-point field goal in the closing seconds to lift VSU to a victory over Palm Beach Atlantic.

The Valdosta State Lady Blazers (2-0) will aim to open their 2025 campaign with a third consecutive win on Wednesday when they host Georgia Southwestern at 6 P.M. at the Complex.
