Blazer Football Sweeps Weekly Awards for Second-Straight Week

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Following the thrilling 47-44, upset win at No. 3 West Florida to win the Gulf South Conference title, Valdosta State football swept the weekly GSC awards for the second-straight week.  
 
Blazer junior quarterback Jameson Holcomb put together his best game to date, earning Offensive Player of the Week honors, while junior linebacker Julius Pascal earned Defensive honors for the second-straight week after another double-digit tackle performance and freshman kicker Matt Rolader earned both Freshman and Special Teams honors as he delivered the game winning field goal in overtime.
 
Holcomb, a native of Murfreesboro, Tenn., went 20 of 37 passing for 331 yards and four touchdowns in the win Saturday, along with one interception.  His 331 passing yards and four touchdowns were both career-highs, as were his 37 passing attempts.  Holcomb's previous best was 225 yards and two touchdowns against West Alabama on Nov. 1.  For the season, he is 120 of 190 passing for 1366 yards, ten touchdowns and four interceptions with a 63.16 completion percentage and a 170.75 passing efficiency.  
 
Pascal, a native of Miami, Fla., continued his outstanding season with another great performance on Saturday finishing with 11 total tackles and nine solo stops, along with 1.5 tackles for loss for three yards and a team-high three pass breakups.  It marked the second-straight week of double-digit tackles for Pascal as he had 14 last week and second-straight week of nine solo tackles.  For the season, Pascal has three games of double-digit tackles and leads the team with 85 total tackles and 47 solo stops.  
 
Rolader, an Auburn, Ala., native, earned his third special teams and freshman of the week each with another great game Saturday.  He went six of six on extra-points and nailed a 37-yard field goal in overtime for the game winner helping lead VSU to its 12th GSC title and automatic qualification into the NCAA postseason.  For the season, Rolader is 36 of 37 in extra-points and 8 of 10 in field goals for a team-high 60 points scored.  
 
The Blazers (6-4) travel up the road approximately 90 minutes to battle No. 13 Albany State on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m., at The ASU Coliseum in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs.  VSU is making its 21st appearance in the postseason and is 34-16 all-time in the playoffs.
