VSU Falls to Lee in Regular-Season Finale

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State volleyball team (12-17, 11-9 Gulf South Conference) fell in four sets at Lee University (16-13, 12-8 GSC). The sides split the season series, each claiming a four-set win at home. Freshman Madison Kilmer put down the next two kills to cut into Lee's 18-14 lead. Oncins (2), Brown, Montagnani, and senior Ava Young added more, but Lee escaped the first set 25-21.

Oncins (3) and Brown started the second set with Blazer kills and freshman Ava Keuntjes added her second ace of the match. Several errors both ways led to an 8-8 tie. Young sent down a kill and Brown served an ace, but Lee went ahead 12-10. Oncins (3), Sophomore Avery Mullins, and Brown sent down more kills on the way to a 20-18 lead. Mullins and Kilmer worked together for a big block and several Lee errors cleared the way to a 25-22 win in the set and 1-1 tie in the match.

Oncins continued her strong performance in the third set with three of the first four Blazers kills. Kilmer and Mullins combined for a second block and Mullins added a kill on the way to a 7-7 tie. Oncins sent down three more kills and senior Katie Callneberger added another after combining with Young for a block, but the Flames ran away to win the set 25-17 and jump ahead 2-1 in the match.

Brown opened the fourth set with a kill, Oncins sent down two more on her way to a new season high, and Kilmer added two more to push VSU ahead 5-2.
