VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's soccer team returns home to host Spring Hill College and No. 6 West Florida this week. The Blazers and the Badgers kick off at 7 p.m. Friday evening, while VSU entertains the Argos Sunday at 1 p.m. Sunday's match all fans are encouraged to wear pink for the annual Pink Match.

The Blazers enter the week with a 1-5-4 record overall and an 0-4-1 mark in Gulf South Conference play. VSU is coming off a 3-1 loss and a 3-0 loss in Alabama last week at West Alabama and at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, respectively. This season, the Blazers have scored five goals on 106 shots (.050) with 45 on target (.425) and has attempted 51 corner kicks. On defense, the Blazers have surrendered 18 goals on 109 shots (.165) with 62 on frame and allowed 40 corner kicks and the opposition has gone 2 for 2 in penalty kicks.
Individually, junior
Taylor Youmans leads the team with three goals scored and one game winner. She has 13 shots (.231) with seven on frame (.538) this season. Senior
Katherine Kimmel and sophomore
Maria Rojas each have one goal, while Rojas leads the team with 19 shots (.053) and nine on frame (.474). Sophomore
Anna Dandeneau has the lone assist on the year.
In goal, senior
Claire Timberlake has played and started eight matches with a 1.55 goals against average in 696:24 minutes. She has 35 saves and is 1-3-4 on the year with two shutouts and faced 86 shots. Freshman
Adrienne Cardona-Colon has started two matches and played in four, allowing six goals and registered eight saves. She has faced 23 shots and is 0-2 on the year.
Head coach
Stephen Andrew is 67-58-18 in his ninth season at the helm of the Blazers. He is 51-39-11 in GSC play, while he is 20-7-113-27 all-time in 19 years of coaching, including stops at Huntingdon College and Piedmont College.
VSU leads the all-time series with Spring Hill College, 8-0-2 and has won seven-straight in the series, dating back to a 6-0 win on Sept. 29, 2017. VSU went 1-0-2 in the first three meetings in the series between 2014 and 2016. The Blazers have not surrendered a goal during the seven-match winning streak, outscoring the Badgers 25-0 and have outscored SHC 30-4 in the ten matches all-time.
The Badgers enter with a 2-2-6 record overall and an 0-2-3 record in league play. SHC is coming off a 0-0 tie against Lee on Oct. 5, and a 2-1 loss to Trevecca Nazarene on Oct. 3. Thyri Willumsdottir leads the team with three goals and has 12 shots this season (.250) with seven on target (.583). Sofia Jimenez Garcia has two goals and one assist on the year with eight shots and seven on frame, along with one game winner. In goal, Carolota Stark has played every minute, allowing just six goals for a 0.67 goals against average and 47 saves. Stark is fourth nationally and tops in the GSC in shutouts (6) and is tops in the GSC in save percentage at a .887 clip. The Badgers are under the direction of head coach Samantha Thomsit who is 15-35-12 in four seasons as head coach.
The Argos enter with a 7-0-2 record overall and 4-0-1 in GSC play as they are sixth nationally in the newest United Soccer Coaches Top 25. UWF has won four-straight matches and have outscored the opposition this season 19-5 and 10-2 during the current winning streak. For the season, Olof Thorvaldsdottir leads the team with six goals and three assists for 15 points. She is one of three players on the team with a team-high 27 shots and she leads the team with 12 shots on target, while registering two game winners and is 1 for 1 in penalty kicks. Alexis Castle is second in scoring with four goals and eight points. She also has two game winners while Mya Swinton has two goals and is tied with Megan Gettys for the team-lead in assists with two.
In goal, Belle Okoroafo has played 802:59 minutes surrendering five goals (0.56 GAA) with 26 saves and has four shutouts with one combined shutout with Zoe Mirus. Okoroafo has faced 63 shots and is 7-0-2 on the year.
Nationally speaking Thorvaldsdottir leads the GSC in scoring with 15 points for 32
nd nationally, while she is second in the league in goals scored (6) for 33
rd nationally. Okoroafo is second in the GSC in GAA at a 0.56 clip for 33
rdnationally.
Head coach Joe Bartlinski is 387-66-33 in 24 years as head coach of the Argos. UWF leads the all-time series with VSU 13-1-4 and has won the last five-straight. VSU's lone win came in the Gulf South Conference Championship Semifinal with a 2-1 win on Nov. 7, 2014, while VSU also advanced on penalty kicks in 2-2 tie in the 2011 GSC Championship Semifinal on Nov. 4, 2011.
