LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Valdosta State junior women's soccer forward
Taylor Youmans scored a goal in the 81
st minute pulling VSU within 3-1, but that would be as close as it would get in a 3-1 loss at West Alabama on Friday evening.
The Blazers fell to 1-4-4 overall and 0-2-2 in Gulf South Conference play, while UWA improved to 4-2-2 overall and 1-2-1 in league play.
Youmans scored her team-leading third goal of the season as UWA couldn't clear the ball out of the box and Youmans found the back of the net and off the post past goalkeeper Yumari Hernandez for the score at the 80:54 mark. Youmans finished with two shots, both on target and the score. Hernandez finished with two saves.
The Tigers used two penalty kick goals by Selis Demirci and assisted on the third goal, with the first coming just 8:57 into the contest and the second for a 3-0 lead late in the contest. UWA used a run of play goal from Aynzlie Nelson with an assist from Demirci at the 74:43 mark for a 2-0 lead at that point.
VSU held a 9-8 lead in shots, while UWA held a 6-3 lead in shots on goal for the match. Blazer sophomore
Maria Rojas had two shots and one on goal. Blazer freshman goalkeeper
Adrienne Cardona-Colon had her first start of her career, registering three saves in 90 minutes.
