VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State football senior defensive lineman 
Mark Robinson and women's soccer junior midfielder 
Kaitlyn Scherer earned Steel's Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week.  
 
Robinson, a Memphis, Tenn., native, had a standout performance helping VSU snap a three-game skid as he had nine total tackles and five solo stops, four tackles for loss for 18 yards, four sacks for 18 yards, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery along with one hurry in a 35-24 win on Homecoming on Saturday versus North Greenville.  
 
VSU sacked Dylan Ramirez seven times as a team, while Robinson's four sacks tied the Bazemore-Hyder Stadium record for the third time as the last was Tyler Josey of VSU on Nov. 1, 2012, versus Texas A&M-Kingsville.  Robinson's four sacks also tied for the most in program history in a single game for the third time and first since 1997.  It also tied for fourth-most all-time in Gulf South Conference history.
 
Robinson also earned Gulf South Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts last weekend.  This season, Robinson has 25 total tackles for the season with 4.5 tackles for loss for 19 yards, four sacks for 18 yards, three hurries, the one fumble recovery and the one forced fumble in five games played.  
 
Scherer, a native of Green Cove Springs, Fla., also had a standout week for the Blazers, helping lead the team to a 2-0 record with a 3-1 win over Eckerd and a 4-2 win at Christian Brothers.  Scherer played all 180 minutes, finishing with four shots, three on frame, three goals and one game winner in the win at CBU.  Scherer scored the third goal of the first half in a 3-1 win over Eckerd and then broke a 2-2 tie in the 76th minute with her second goal of the match at CBU, coming just 2:54 after CBU had tied the match.  It gave Scherer her first multi-goal match of her career.  She now has scored goals in three consecutive matches.  
 
For the season, Scherer is second on the team in scoring with ten points as her four goals is tied for the team-lead, while she has two assists.  Scherer has 18 shots (.222) with 12 on goal (.667) while registering a team-high two game winners.  
 
The Blazer women's soccer team hosts Delta State on Friday at 7 p.m., at the VSU Soccer Complex and then hosts Mississippi College on Sunday at 1 p.m., for Senior Day, while the Blazer football team hosts No. 21 West Alabama on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
