VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State volleyball team hosts two home matches against Gulf South Conference opponents this weekend. The Blazers will host UAH at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3rd before turning their attention to Montevallo on Saturday, Oct. 4th at 1 p.m.

VSU (4-9) rides a three-match winning streak into Friday's contest with UAH. The Blazers swept both Christian Brothers and Union on the road last weekend before returning to the Complex on Tuesday where they took down Auburn Montgomery for a third straight sweep victory. The Blazers have followed up their challenging non-conference slate with a 3-1 start in GSC play.

Tuesday's victory was highlighted offensively by a strong performance from junior Asia Montagnani, her nine kills were a team high. Senior Ava Young knocked down six kills at a .500 clip. Young also added a team-high three blocks with zero errors. Sophomore Avery Mullins posted a team-high 24 assists and added a trio of kills in the win.

UAH (10-3) also earned a sweep over a conference opponent on Tuesday, defeating West Alabama 3-0 in Livingston to move to 2-2 in GSC play. The Charger offense is led by senior Caroline Moyer, whose 184 kills and 3.83 kills per set are both GSC-leading totals. UAH's freshman setter Cooper Garrett is sixth in the GSC with 284 assists. As a unit, UAH's 107 total blocks are the second most in the conference, while their 794 digs lead the GSC. The Chargers play another GSC opponent today in No. 17 West Florida before tomorrow's match with VSU at the Complex.

The Blazers and Chargers have a storied history dating back to their first meeting in October of 1995, when VSU kicked off a four-match winning streak. UAH leads the all-time series 30 matches to 24, also claiming the most recent contest in a three-set sweep. The teams split last year's season series, both sides winning on the road and losing at their home venue.

Montevallo (4-9), like UAH, will enter this weekend's matchup following a match with No. 17 West Florida. The Falcons fell 3-1 in their last contest against Mississippi College on Tuesday. Senior Danielle Greene has put together an outstanding season thus far. Her 67 total blocks lead the GSC by a significant margin, with second place totaling 48. Montevallo's 118 total blocks are the most in the conference. Greene's 122 kills are the most by a Falcon. Ava Wind's 232 digs are the second most in the conference, and Blakeley Robbins' 307 assists are good for the fourth-highest tally in the GSC.

The Falcons boast a 9-3 advantage in the all-time series with the Blazers. Valdosta State won the most recent meeting in a 3-0 sweep at the Complex, but Montevallo has claimed four out of the last five contests.
