VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State soccer women's soccer team scored early and often in a 7-0 win over visiting Auburn Montgomery Saturday Afternoon at the VSU Soccer Complex.
The Blazers (2-7-4, 1-6-1 Gulf South Conference) snapped a four-match skid and won their first match since a 1-0 win at Georgia Southwestern on Sept. 14. Balanced scoring was the theme of the match for the Blazers as seven different players scored goals and all by sophomore
Maria Rojas had their first goals of the season. Rojas tallied her second goal of the season. VSU had been 0-6-2 since the GSW victory. AUM fell to 1-10-2 and 0-6-2 in league play.
VSU had a season-high 36 shots with 22 on frame as the 36 shots were good for second-most all-time in a match in program history (at Albany State, Sept. 8, 2021). The 22 shots on target also are the second-most all-time in program history as VSU had 26 in the match at Albany State in 2021.
Blazer junior
Kaitlyn Scherer finished with one goal and two assists in the match as VSU registered a season-high six assists. The Blazers entered the match with just one assist on the year. Scherer finished with five shots and four on goal, while junior
Taylor Youmans paced the team with seven shots and five on target and assisted on one goal. VSU played both of its goalkeepers as senior
Claire Timberlake played 75:19 minutes, while freshman
Adrienne Cardona-Colon finished the final 14:41 as each had one save and combined for the shutout.
The seven goals against AUM marked the most in a conference match for the Blazers since a 7-0 win at Shorter on Oct. 15, 2023. Saturday's output tied for the most goals scored in the GSC in a conference match this season as Montevallo and Delta State each had seven goals against Union and Christian Brothers, respectively. The 36 shots were good for second-most in the GSC this season as the six assists were good for second in the league in 2025 thus far.
It didn't take long for the Blazers to get on the board as great passing led to the first goal with Scherer scoring off assists from Rojas and senior
Victoria Bahr just 7:39 into the match. VSU scored its second goal just 3:20 of game time later with a goal from sophomore
Jenni McIntosh on a great shot from outside the box past a diving Karla Guzman-Ortiz, who had seven saves for the match.
VSU added one more goal in the first half for a 3-0 lead with the third goal coming from freshman
Jada Narcisse and an assist from freshman
Isabelle Allen. Bahr, junior
Kayleigh Kearns, Rojas and junior
Tatyana Machado each scored goals in the second half.
The Blazers continue at home with a Monday matchup with Eckerd College at 5 p.m. at the VSU Soccer Complex.
