VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's soccer team hung tough with No. 6 West Florida Sunday afternoon in a 2-0 loss to the Argonauts. 
 
The Blazers finished with eight shots and two on target, while UWF had 14 shots and nine on frame.  Blazer senior goalkeeper Claire Timberlake made seven saves in the match, while eight different Blazers had one shot each.
 
The Argos (9-0-2, 6-0-1 GSC) were led by goals from Mya Swinton and Olof Thorvaldsdottir as both had three shots and two on target each.  Thorvaldsdottir also assisted on the Swinton goal.  
 
Swinton began the game with a shot off the post just 1:42 into the contest and then she had another good look at the 10:10 mark as Timberlake made a diving save, while Timberlake also came up with another great save on a shot from JoHannah Peterson just three minutes later.  
 
Later in the half, UWF's Kaitlyn Herb had shot at the 22:35 mark as VSU was unable to clear the ball as Thorvaldsdottir tracked it down and dished to Swinton for the score and a 1-0 lead at the 23:22 mark.  
 
The Blazers kept fighting, but Thorvaldsdottir scored at the 54:46 mark following two corner kicks by the Argos.  Blazer junior Taylor Youmans had a good look at a shot but UWF keeper Belle Okoroafo got her hand on it for a save moments after the second goal by the Argos.  
 
VSU (1-7-4, 0-6-1 GSC) continues at home with Auburn Montgomery on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m., followed by a non-conference match against Eckerd College on Oct. 20 at 5 p.m.
