TIGERVILLE, S.C. – On a windy afternoon, the Valdosta State women's soccer team scored a goal in the 61
st minute from senior
Ansley Decenzo which proved to be enough as the Blazers won 1-0 at North Greenville.
VSU (2-0) outshot the Trailblazers 13-7 and 5-2 in shots on goal for the match, while senior
Emma Pruett posted her second-straight shutout between the posts with two saves. Decenzo had two shots, both on target and the score, while senior
Molly Wooldridge had two shots and freshman
Maria Rojas led the team with three shots and two on target.

Stephen Andrew won his 200
th career match (200-101-20), while he won his 60
th match at VSU (60-46-11).
Decenzo scored her eighth goal of her career breaking the scoreless tie at the 60:11 mark. NGU (-0-2) goalkeeper Haleigh Holland finished with four saves and the one goal allowed. Macy Metcalf finished with two shots and one on target for NGU.
The Blazers had a great chance 25:16 into the contest but missed a penalty kick as VSU outshot the Trailblazers 6-4 in the first 45 minutes. VSU then had numerous looks in the second half, outshooting NGU 7-3 for the final stanza.
At the 49:16 mark, Rojas thought she had her second goal in as many collegiate games, but NGU came up with a team save. Later, NGU had a good look on a shot from Aleisha Lamb, but Pruett was up to the task and moments later, Decenzo scored the winner for the Blazers.
VSU continues on the road on Wed., Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. at #15 Embry-Riddle in the 2024 home-opener for the Eagles. The Blazers then return home to host Georgia College next Saturday at 5 p.m. at the VSU Soccer Complex.
