Bennett Earns Lions Volleyball Fall Tournament MVP, Callenberger and Pettigrew Named to All-Tournament Team

VALDOSTA, Ga.- Senior Audrey Bennett, junior Katie Callenberger and senior Christina Pettigrew were all named to the Lions Volleyball Fall Tournament All-Tournament Team as Bennett earned the title of Tournament MVP. The trio helped lead Valdosta State volleyball to a perfect 4-0 run over the weekend against the likes of St. Edward's, UVA Wise, Saint Michael's and Saint Leo.
 
Earning the title of Tournament MVP, Bennett did a little bit of everything on the floor. Over the four-game stretch, she recorded a tournament-high 135 assists while also hitting .209 on 13 total kills and just four errors in 43 swings. She also notched six service aces including a crucial set-winning ace in the 3-0 win over Saint Leo. Defensively, the Lenexa, Kan. native racked up seven blocks including two solo rejections while also stretching out points with 42 digs. Bennett's crowning performance came in the final game of the tournament against Saint Leo in which she tallied five kills, 34 assists, a season-best four aces, five digs and four total blocks.
 
Callenberger continued her exceptional start to the 2024 season in Saint Leo, bringing the boom at the net. The Merritt Island, Fla. native hit for a team-best .313 for the weekend, delivering 32 kills in 80 attempts with just seven attack errors. She recorded a total of seven blocks in the tournament, tallying one solo rejections. She was crucial to the Blazers' success in the 3-0 tournament finale against Saint Leo, racking up a squad-high 12 kills on 22 swings while hitting a match-high .455 in the match. She also tallied six blocks in that match alone, bringing her season total to 16.
 
Pettigrew was crucial on both sides of the net, helping Valdosta State advance to a 4-0 weekend at the Lions Volleyball Fall Tournament. Defensively, Pettigrew led the team in blocks with 10 over the four-game stretch including two solo rejections. She also recorded 11 digs during the tournament. The Copperas Cove, Tex. native finished the weekend hitting for .302 on 42 kills in 106 swings with just 10 miscues while also tacking on four aces. She recorded a total of 52 points for the Blazers. In the 3-0 win over Saint Leo, Pettigrew hit for a match-best .421, recording 10 kills and three total blocks.
 
The Blazer volleyball team is mounting up for a big weekend at The Complex as they host the No. 1 team in the nation, Tampa on Friday evening before closing out the weekend against Florida Southern on Saturday.
