PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 3-ranked Valdosta State men's tennis team blanked Delta State Fridy afternoon 7-0 in Pensacola, Fla. The Blazers improved to 11-3 overall and 4-1 in Gulf South Conference play, while Delta State fell to 2-11 overall and 2-6 in league play.
VSU got off to a hot start, winning all three doubles matches in quick fashion, dropping just four games combined in the three matches. No. 35-ranked duo of seniors
Luca Mack and
Christian Wedel downed Emiliano Elizarraraz and Sebastian Herandez, 6-1, while No. 47-ranked tandem of sophomore
Jan Skerbatis and junior
Boruch Skierkier also won 6-1 at No. 2 to claim the team point. Junior
Takeshi Taco and freshman
Jerome Iaconi won 6-2 at No. 3 for the sweep.
Heading to singles, Skierkier, ranked No. 21 nationally didn't drop a game against Harry Browning, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot in the lineup, while Skerbatis won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 for a 3-0 lead. VSU clinched the win at No. 4 singles as Wedel downed Hernandez 6-0, 6-2. Taco, ranked No. 5 nationally, won 6-0, 6-0 over Jacob Lubbe at No. 2, while Mack, ranked No. 24 nationally dispatched Elizarraraz 6-1, 6-3 at the top spot and Iaconi defeated Goran Krivokapic at No. 5, 6-3, 6-2 to finish the match.
