Newly Ranked Blazer Women’s Tennis Heads to Pensacola

VALDOSTA, Ga. –  Fresh off a huge win over then-No. 14 West Florida, the No. 35 Valdosta State women's tennis team returns to Pensacola, Fla., for three matches this weekend versus Delta State, Christian Brothers and Mississippi College.

The Blazers face Delta State on Friday, Apr. 5 at 2 p.m. ET, followed by a 10 a.m. ET match with Christian Brothers on Apr. 6 and then will finish the weekend with an 11 a.m. ET matchup with Mississippi College.  VSU enters with a 4-7 record overall and a 3-1 mark in Gulf South Conference play.  
 
West Alabama is 5-0 in league play and 9-8 overall to lead the league, while Auburn Montgomery is 13-4 overall and 6-1 in league play.  Lee is 4-1 in conference play and VSU is 3-1 completing three teams all with one loss in conference play. No. 27 Mississippi College is 9-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while Delta State is 2-8 and 2-6 in league play, while Christian Brothers is 9-8 and 3-4 in the GSC.  
 
Freshman Aneta Poborilova also earned both GSC Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week.  This is her third Freshman of the Week honor and first Player of the Week accolade this season.  
 
The Blazers moved to 35th nationally following the win over UWF.  Freshman tandem of Denisa Hanakova and Viktoriia Fedorova are 44th nationally in doubles with a 6-3 record this year.  Poborilova and freshman Natalie Rainke are 7-2 this spring in doubles at the No. 2 position to lead the team.  In singles, junior Kayla Greco is 6-4 this spring and 3-1 in league play, while Poborilova is 6-4 and also 3-1 in conference play.  
 
VSU is 11-1 in the last 12 meetings against Delta State and has won the last 11, while the Blazers are 9-0 since 2013 against CBU and are 4-4 since 2015 against MC.
