CARROLLTON, Ga. -The Valdosta State Blazer baseball team won their eighth consecutive series on Saturday afternoon at West Georgia in a doubleheader split. For the series, VSU outscored UWG 30-13. Valdosta State finishes the regular season with a record of 26-18 (18-12 GSC), while West Georgia finished with a record of 23-25 (14-16 GSC). The Blazers finished fourth in the conference, as Lee, Auburn Montgomery, and Delta State took the top three spots. West Florida finished in fifth, followed by Montevallo, Shorter, and West Georgia to round out the GSC Tournament Field. The tournament will start on Friday, May 3 and run through the weekend until Tuesday, May 7.

Sophomore
Dennis Pierce kept mashing his way through the weekend, as he hit two home runs including a grand slam in the top of the second inning of game one. For the weekend, Pierce drove in six runs on five hits. On the mound, redshirt junior
Hunter Booth picked up his eighth win of the season in a complete game shutout in game one. Booth allowed four hits while walking one batter and striking out six.

GAME ONE: VALDOSTA STATE: 15 WEST GEORGIA: 0
It was pure dominance in game one, as the Blazers jumped all over the wolves in the top of the second of game number one. RBI singles from senior

Pedro Moreno started a seven-run top of the second. A bases-loaded walk from senior
Ryan Romano brought up Dennis "The Menace" Pierce, who hit his second grand slam of the season to empty the bases and give VSU a 7-0 lead.

Hunter Booth was masterful on the mound, as he went all seven innings for Valdosta State.

The top of the order was red-hot for VSU, as Moreno, Romano, and Pierce combined for six hits in 12 at-bats with nine RBIs. Valdosta State hit four doubles, one triple, and one home runs in the 15-0 game one rout.

GAME TWO: VALDOSTA STATE: 3 WEST GEORGIA: 4
The Blazers took an early 1-0 on a double steal from Romano and Moreno, as they led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the first. Junior
Jude Ard got the nod in game two, as he was able to get out of a jam in the bottom of the first after he retired two straight Wolves on a strikeout and a pop out with the bases loaded.

UWG was able to get to Ard in the bottom of the third, as two straight outs didn't scare Luke Hatcher, as he tied the game on a solo shot to left. A walk and a single kept the two out rally going, as the Wolves took a 2-1 on yet another two out hit to take a 2-1 lead through three innings.

VSU was able to tie things up in the top of the fourth, as a double from sophomore
DJ Banks brought home senior
David Crawford to make it 2-2 through four innings of play.

Dennis Pierce gave Valdosta State the lead again in the top of the fifth, as he sent his 13
th homer of the season into left for a solo shot and a 3-2 VSU lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, UWG opened things up with two straight singles to put the pressure on VSU. A sacrifice bunt put the winning run on second base with no one out. Head coach
Greg Guilliams intentionally walked the next batter to try and turn a double play. The Blazers walked in a run to tie things up before a sacrifice fly to right brought in the winnings run, as the Wolves stole game three, 4-3.

Valdosta State will get to rest all of their arms this week before they make the trip to Choccolocoo Park in Oxford, Ala.
