Women’s Tennis Heads to No. 6 Flagler for Wednesday Afternoon Match

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's tennis team heads to No. 6 Flagler for a Wednesday afternoon match at 2 p.m., in Saint Augustine, Fla.  Fans can access a link to live stats for the match at vstateblazers.com on the women's tennis schedule page.
 
The Blazers enter the match with a 2-3 record following a 5-2 loss to No. 8 Columbus State on Feb. 29. Flagler enters with a 3-2 record following a 4-1 victory over Ferris State (Mich.) on Tuesday.  
 
VSU fought valiantly against Columbus State with wins by junior Kayla Greco in singles at the No. 5 spot (6-1, 6-2), while freshman Denisa Hanakova won 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6) at the No. 3 spot.  Despite CSU winning the doubles point, Blazer freshmen duo of Aneta Poborilova and Natalie Rainke won 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
 
For the spring, Greco and Hanakova are 3-1 in singles to lead the team, while Hanakova and freshman Viktoriia Fedorova are 3-2 in doubles.  Flagler is led by No. 2-ranked Nadja Meier, who is 18-3 in singles this year, while she is 3-1 in dual matches.  Charlotta Buss is 10-6 this season and 3-2 in dual matches this spring.  In doubles, Meier and Dana Heimen are 10-3 overall and 2-0 in dual matches to lead the team.  
 
The teams are tied 2-2 all-time.  VSU won 8-1 on Feb. 2, 2007, in Valdosta, and won 7-2 on Feb. 16, 2008, in Saint Augustine, while Flagler has won the last two meetings with a 6-1 victory in Valdosta on Apr. 15, 2022 and a 7-0 victory also in Valdosta on Feb. 21, 2021.  
 
Following the match, VSU continues at home on Saturday and returns to Gulf South Conference play hosting Lee University at 10 a.m. at the VSU Tennis Complex.
