MONTEVALLO, Ala.- The Valdosta State softball team dropped the finale of a three game Gulf South Conference series to Montevallo, 16-0 (5 innings), despite locking up the series with a doubleheader sweep yesterday.

Following the loss, the Blazers dropped to 22-14 overall and 13-5 in GSC play while Montevallo improved to 17-17 overall with a 10-8 mark in conference play, snapping a nine-game losing streak.

Montevallo ended up striking first, tallying a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI double to go up 1-0 early.

The Falcons started to pour it on in the bottom of the third, racking up nine runs on two errors and four hits including a three-run home run and a triple to go up 10-0 in the blink of an eye.

UM added six more runs to its lead in bottom of the fourth on five hits including a double and a grand slam to go up 16-0. Montevallo hung on to its 16-run lead in the top of the fifth to lock up the big-time win, 16-0.

All four Blazer pitchers saw action in the circle, collectively allowing 11 hits for 16 runs (13 earned). They walked four batters and stuck out two. Offensively, VSU was held to just one hit in the matchup, courtesy of

The Blazers will return to the road next weekend for a big-time Gulf South Conference matchup against the No. 10 Mississippi College Choctaws in Clinton, Miss.
