VALDOSTA, Ga. – Coming off a 1-1 opening weekend, the Valdosta State women's basketball team returns to the court on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at The Complex versus Brewton-Parker.

This year, all Lady Blazer basketball home and GSC home and away games will be streamed on FloCollege. The Lady Blazers defeated Palm Beach Atlantic last Thursday evening behind 20 points from junior newcomer

Erin Whalen chipped in nine points and had a career-high 13 rebounds, while senior
Courtney Stothard added ten rebounds off the bench. Lady Blazer head coach Chandler Merkerson won her first game as she was hired this past April.
On Friday, the Lady Blazers had a tough shooting night and were unable to get the timely shots as Eckerd won 61-55. Nelson had 18 points and seven rebounds, while Whalen narrowly missed a double-double for the second-straight game with 13 points and nine rebounds. VSU took the lead for the first time in the third quarter and held a 46-44 lead early in the fourth, but big three-pointers from the Tritons down the stretch proved to be the difference.
Brewton-Parker enters with a 2-3 record overall as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and is coming off a 76-47 loss to Campbellsville (Ky.) on Saturday. The Lady Barons are led this season by Destanee Wright who averages 14.8 points per game on 23 of 50 from the field, while she is 5 of 15 from beyond the arc and 23 of 34 from the line. Chasity Degale is second in scoring at 11.4 points per game. Degale is 20 of 46 from the field and 15 of 27 from the line. Angel McRae leads the team averaging 12.5 rebounds per game and 8.8 points per contest for third on the team in scoring. As a team, the Lady Barons are 106 of 295 from the field for a .359 clip, while they are 19 of 91 from distance and 72 of 128 from the line for a .563 average. BC is scoring 60.6 points per game and averaging 42.2 rebounds per game, while allowing 69.8 points and 33.0 rebounds per game. Teams are shooting .394 against BC on 123 of 312 from the field, while the opposition has made 45 triples in 128 attempts (.352) and is 58 of 92 from the line (.630).

Jacey Justice added four points off the bench with four assists. McRae had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Barons in the game.
BC head coach Steve Edwards is in his ninth season at the helm of the Lady Barons. Brewton-Parker was picked fifth in the 2024-25 Southern States Athletic Conference poll after going 19-13 last season and 9-9 in league play losing at Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) in the first round of the NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship.
For the first two games of the season, the Lady Blazers are 48 of 137 from the field (.350) and are just 6 of 38 from beyond the arc (.158), while going 28 of 42 from the line (.667). VSU is averaging 65.0 points per game and allowing 59.5. The Lady Blazers are averaging 38.5 rebounds per game and allowing 34.0. PBA and Eckerd shot a combined .388 from the field against the Lady Blazers (40 of 103), while the opposition was 8 of 29 from distance (.276) and 31 of 54 from the line (.574). Nelson leads the team averaging 17.5 points per game on 14 of 31 from the field (.452) and 7 of 13 from the line (.538). Hicks is second in scoring at 14.0 points per game on 12 of 23 from the field (.522), while Whalen is third in scoring a 11.0 points per game and leads the team averaging 11.0 rebounds per game.
Following Tuesday's game, the Lady Blazers don't play again until they host Lynn on Monday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. to conclude the opening homestand. From there, VSU heads on the road for four games, before returning home for three games beginning Dec. 15 versus West Florida leading into the Christmas holiday.
