Blazer Women’s Soccer Heads to the Magnolia State for Two Matches

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Fresh off two very important wins, the Valdosta State women's soccer team closes the road portion of the regular season this weekend in The Magnolia State with a pair of matches at Mississippi College and Delta State.  
 
VSU and the Choctaws battle on Friday at 2 p.m. ET, and then travels to Cleveland, Miss., for a Sunday matchup with the Lady Statesmen at 2 p.m. ET.  Fans can access links to live stats and audio/video streaming on FloSoccer of the matches at vstateblazers.com on the women's soccer schedule page.
 
The Blazers are 7-6-1 overall and 4-4-1 in GSC play as they are tied for sixth in the league standings with Delta State, each with 13 points.  Following the two matches this weekend, VSU returns home to host Lee on Wed., Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. at the VSU Soccer Complex in a makeup match from Hurricane Helene.
 
Mississippi College enters the week one point behind the Blazers and Lady Statesmen for eighth in the league standings, point ahead of Spring Hill College and a full game in front of Trevecca Nazarene.  The Choctaws are 3-4-3 in league play and 7-4-3 overall, while Delta State is 3-3-4 in GSC play and 4-4-5 overall.  Both the Choctaws and Lady Statesmen will conclude the regular seasons this weekend facing VSU and Auburn Montgomery.  
 
In arguably two of the most important matches of the season, VSU used a 3-2 win over Union last Friday and then posted a 4-0 victory over Christian Brothers on Senior Day on Sunday.  The Blazers needed both victories to keep their hopes of qualifying for the Gulf South Conference postseason tournament alive.  
 
Blazer junior Victoria Bahr scored in the 88th minute to break a 2-2 tie versus Union for the game winner, while she then scored the first goal in the win over Christian Brothers, earning her GSC Player of the Week honors.  Blazer junior defender Katherine Kimmel earned GSC Defensive Player of the Week accolades after she scored a goal and tallied an assist, while freshman Maria Rojas earned Freshman of the Week honors scoring her fourth goal of the year against CBU to tie for the team-lead in goals scored.
 
For the season, the Blazers have scored 27 goals with 24 assists for 78 points, while allowing 21 goals with 18 assists for 60 points.  The team has fired 146 shots (.185) with 84 on target (.575) and has gone 4 of 5 in penalty kicks.  VSU has 66 corner kicks this season, while it averages 10.4 shots per game for the season. Kimmel leads the team in scoring with 12 points on three goals and a team-high six assists.  She has eight shots and six on frame while going 3 of 3 in penalty kicks.  Senior Molly Wooldridge is second in scoring with nine points on three goals and three assists.  Wooldridge has 20 shots (.150) with nine on target (.450) and one game winner.  Rojas and senior Hunter Wallace each have four goals to lead the team.  
 
In goal, junior Claire Timberlake is 4-3-1 on the year in 680:34 minutes, allowing 12 goals (1.59 GAA) with 35 saves and two shutouts along with one combined shutout while facing 70 shots.  Senior Emma Pruett is 3-3 on the year with nine goals against (1.42 GA) with 22 saves in 572:20 minutes, along with two shutouts and two combined shutouts and she has faced 55 shots.  Sophomore Tori Vliet has played in one game for 7:06 with one save and combined on a shutout.  
 
Nationally speaking, VSU is second in the GSC in total assists (24) for 35th nationally and is 36th nationally in assists per game (1.71) also good for second in the league.  The Blazers are third in the GSC in points per game (5.57) for 49th nationally and fourth in the league in total points (78).  VSU leads the GSC in shot accuracy at a .575 clip for 20th nationally, while the team is third in the league in scoring offense (1.93 goals per game) for 58th nationally.  Individually, Kimmel leads the league in assists (6) with West Florida's Ahnalie Layman for 27th nationally.  She is 30th nationally in assists per game (0.43) for second in the league. 
 
Blazer head coach Stephen Andrew is 65-52-12 (.550) at Valdosta State in his eighth season at the helm of the program, while he is 205-107-21 (.647) all-time in his 18th season of coaching.  Andrew is 50-35-6 (.582) in GSC play.  
 
The Choctaws enter having scored 33 goals on the year with 26 assists for 92 points, while allowing 15 goals with ten assists for 40 points.  MC has 206 shots for the season (.160) with 105 on target (.510) and have 44 corner kicks for the season, while averaging 14.7 shots per game and 2.36 goals per game.  Jaylen Bodry leads the team with five goals and ten points, while Margherita Giubilato also has ten points with four goals and two assists.  In goal, Jessi Carro has started 13 matches allowing 15 goals (1.15 GAA) with 43 saves and five shutouts facing 117 shots.  
 
VSU will be looking for its first win against the Choctaws in series history as MC leads 9-0-1. The series' first meeting on Oct. 5, 2014, in Valdosta was a 1-1 draw.  Six of the nine MC wins have been decided by one goal, including the last two.  MC won both meetings last season, 2-1 in Clinton on Oct. 8, 2023, and then 1-0 in the conference tournament on Nov. 4, 2023, also at MC.  
 
The Lady Statesmen have scored 12 goals with nine assists for 33 points this season, while allowing 17 goals with eight assists for 42 points.  DSU has 139 shots for the year (.086) with 65 on frame (.468) and is 1 for 1 in penalty kicks.  DSU has 58 corner kicks for the season, while averaging 10.7 shots per game. Individually, Ava Webster leads the team with seven points on three goals and one assist.  She has 12 shots and nine on target with one game winner and 1 of 1 in penalty kicks.  Chloe Jackson also has three goals on the year for six points, while Casey Stalder leads the team with five assists.  Bailey Daugherty and Olivia Griffin have split time in goal this season with Daugherty boasting a 1.09 GAA with seven goals allowed and 20 saves facing 75 shots, while Griffin has a 1.51 GAA with 25 saves and faced 94 shots.  
 
VSU leads the all-time series with DSU 10-1-1, but the Lady Statesmen won 5-2 in Valdosta on Oct. 2, 2022, for their first win in series history.  VSU won last season in Cleveland, 3-2, as Bahr scored the winner in the 70th minute on a penalty kick.
