VALDOSTA, Ga. – For the third time this season, Valdosta State graduate student defensive back Larry Elder has been named the Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

A native of Richmond, Va., made a season-high 11 total tackles, including five solo stops and two tackles for loss.  The Blazer "D" held Mississippi College to just 261 offensive yards and just 38 yards passing, while the Blazers capitalized for a 14-0 lead in points off turnovers.

Elder joins North Greenville wide receiver Dre' Williams, along with Special Teams Player of the Week in West Alabama's Trey Sullivan.  North Greenville's Tyshon Mansell earned Freshman of the Week honors.  Elder and Sullivan are the only two players to have earned league weekly accolades three times this season.

The Blazers, who are 7-0 overall and 3-0 in GSC play, are the only undefeated team in the league and welcome Chowan University to Bazemore-Hyder Stadium on Nov. 2 at 3 p.m., following the "bye" week on Oct. 26.
