Blazer Soccer Heads to No. 15 West Florida and Spring Hill College

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Coming off a 0-0 tie versus West Alabama on Sunday, the Valdosta State women's soccer team travels to No. 15 West Florida on Friday at 6 p.m. ET, followed by a 2 p.m. ET match at Spring Hill College on Sunday.
 
The Blazers are 3-4-1 on the year and 0-2-1 in Gulf South Conference play, while West Florida enters at 6-1-2 overall and 4-0-1 in league play.  Spring Hill, who will host Auburn Montgomery on Friday, before entertaining the Blazers on Sunday, is 4-4-2 overall and a 1-2-2 in league play.  
 
VSU went 0-1-1 last week in two matches moved to Georgia Southwestern University from Valdosta in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.  The Blazers battled back to take the lead on Alabama Huntsville last Friday in the second half, 2-1, on a great goal from senior Ana Moleka from outside the box.  Just 1:33 later, UAH scored the equalizer and then in the 88th minute scored the eventual winning goal for a 3-2 final score.  Blazer junior Katherine Kimmel had an assist in the match and scored the tying goal in the 57th minute.  After UAH led 1-0 at half, VSU scored two goals in just 1:09 minutes of each other and UAH tied the game as stated above 93 seconds afterwards.  In all, the teams scored three goals in a span of 2:42 minutes.  
 
On Sunday, the Blazers returned to the GSW pitch where they played to a scoreless draw with the Tigers. Despite being outshot 15-7 and 10-4 in shots on goal, VSU junior goalkeeper Claire Timberlake had a career-high nine saves in the match to preserve the scoreless draw.  Junior Hunter Wallace had three shots and two on target to lead the way for the Blazers.
 
For the season, the Blazers have scored 11 goals with 78 shots (.139), while 46 shots have been on target (.582) with eight assists and 38 corner kicks.  Defensively, the Blazers have allowed 12 goals on 80 shots (.150) with 44 on target (.550).  VSU is 3 for 4 on penalty kicks this season.  The opposition has ten assists, while Blazer goalkeepers have made 32 saves and the opponents have 25 corner kicks.  Individually, Kimmel leads the team with eight points on two goals and a team-high four assists.  She has three shots with all on frame and has converted two penalty kicks.  Freshman Maria Rojas has scored two goals with a team-high 13 shots (.154) and ten on target (.769), while converting one penalty kick.  
 
In goal, Timberlake leads the team with a 1.46 goals against average in 185:34 minutes.  She has 12 saves with one shutout and faced 25 shots.  Senior Emma Pruett has played 527:20 minutes with a 1.54 GAA and team-high 18 saves with two shutouts and a combined shutout, while facing 49 shots.  Sophomore Tori Vliet has played in one game with one save and one combined shutout.  
 
Blazer head coach Stephen Andrew is 201-105-21 all-time in 18 seasons of coaching and is 61-50-12 at the helm of the Blazers in his eighth season in Titletown.  
 
West Florida has won the last four matches in the series with the Blazers as the teams tied 0-0 on Sept. 24, 2021.  VSU is 1-12-4 all-time against the Argos.  VSU is 7-0-2 all-time against Spring Hill College and has won the last six matches all by shutouts.  The teams tied 1-1 in 2016 and tied 2-2 in 2015, while VSU won 2-1 in 2014.  The Blazers have not allowed a goal by SHC in 584:10 minutes of action.  
 
The Argos have scored 18 goals this season in nine matches with just six goals allowed, while the team has 164 shots (.110) with 80 on target (.488).  UWF has nine assists with 18 saves and 72 corner kicks, while going 2 for 2 in penalty kicks.  On defense, UWF have a 0.67 goals against average for the season with five shutouts and faced 41 shots. 
 
Individually, Julieta Linardo leads the team with four goals and two assists for 10 points.  He has 23 shots (.174) with 13 on target (.565) and is 1 for 1 in penalty kicks.  Emma Beltz is second in scoring with nine points on three goals and a team-high three assists.  She has 26 shots (.115) with 12 on target (.462).  Mya Swinton leads the team with 34 shots (.088) with 20 on frame (.588) for the season.  Swinton has three goals and one assist tying her for third on the team in scoring.  In goal, Maicah Lipsey leads the team as she is 6-1-2 with four shutouts and one combined shutouts on the year.  She has a 0.67 GAA with 17 saves and faced 40 shots. 
 
Spring Hill College has scored 13 goals on the year in 92 shots (.141) with 52 on target (.565), along with eight assists, 36 corner kicks and has gone 1 of 2 in penalty kicks.  The Badgers have surrendered 12 goals, 127 shots (.094) with 60 on frame (.472).  The opposition has seven assists with 39 saves and 52 corner kicks, while going 1 of 1 in penalty kicks.  
 
Individually, Poppy Binding leads the team with three goals and two assists for eight points.  She has 27 shots (.111) with 11 on target (.407), one game winner and 1 of 1 in penalty kicks.  Hailey Blanott is second in scoring with five points on two goals and one assist.  She has six shots and three on frame.  In goal, Carlotta Stark is 3-4-2 on the year in 810:00 minutes of action, allowing 12 goals (1.33 GAA) with 45 saves and faced 119 shots with three shutouts.  Greenley Duplantis has played in one match with three saves and a shutout. 
 
Following the two matches, VSU returns home to host Trevecca Nazarene on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. at the VSU Soccer Complex in a makeup match from Hurricane Helene, before the Blazers travel to Auburn Montgomery on Saturday, Oct. 19.
