Two Second Half Goals Lift Blazers to Thrilling 2-1 Victory Friday Evening

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Two second half goals by the Valdosta State women's soccer team sparked the Blazers to a 2-1 victory over visiting Christian Brothers Friday evening at the VSU Soccer Complex.
 
The Blazers improved to 4-2-3 overall and 2-2-1 in Gulf South Conference play with the victory as they snapped a two-match skid as VSU improved to 8-4-1 all-time against CBU and 4-1-1 in Valdosta.  It also marked the fourth-straight match of being decided by one goal and the 11th time of a one goal margin in the 13 matches played in series history.
 
CBU (3-4-2, 1-3 GSC) scored first on a penalty kick as Luisa Velten converted the PK with 35:14 left in the first half scoring off VSU goalkeeper Claire Timberlake.  The match remained 1-0 CBU at the break as both teams had five shots in the first stanza and each had two shots on target for the half.
 
The Blazers had some good chances in the first half, but were unable to get anything past CBU goalkeeper Chloe Hillyer.  With 27:02 remaining in the contest, senior Ana Moleka had a great look, but the CBU defense came up with the stop leading to a corner kick. 
 
Moleka, just under three minutes later, found the back of the net with an assist from junior Jocelyn Oballe for Moleka's sixth goal of the season and a 1-1 score.  With just 11:14 remaining, sophomore Hunter Wallace scored her first goal as a Blazers with an assist from freshman Sam Stauter for a 2-1 score. 
 
The Blazer "D" held CBU without a shot the retch of the match for the come-from-behind victory.   VSU finished with eight shots in the second half and 13 for the match, while CBU had just two shots in the second half.  VSU held a 7-4 lead in shots on goal, while Hillyer had three saves in the second half and Timberlake had one save. 
 
Moleka had two shots on goal and one  goal, while junior Molly Wooldridge had a team-high three shots and two on target.  Timberlake finished with two saves and the one goal allowed.  Hillyer had four saves and two goals allowed for CBU.
