MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The No. 13 Valdosta State softball team fell in the Gulf South Conference series finale against Auburn Montgomery on Sunday afternoon, 5-1.
With the loss the Blazers fell to 32-12 overall and 18-9 in GSC play while AUM improved to 31-14 overall and 20-6 in conference play.
The Blazers struck first in the top of the third as freshman
Jasmin Stewart cracked her second homer of the weekend to left center to put VSU on the board, 1-0. However, AUM fought back in the bottom of the fourth with a barrage of base hits to tie the game up at 1-1.
Auburn Montgomery took the lead in the bottom of the fifth behind a go-ahead single as the Warhawks led 2-1. AUM then hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to build on its lead, 5-1. The Blazers fought to cut into the lead, but fell short, falling in the series finale, 5-1.

Samantha Richards recorded her 27th complete game of the season and seventh loss of the year (23-7). In six total innings of work, she tallied 10 strikeouts, no walks and allowed six hits for five runs. At the dish, Stewart had one hit for one run and one RBI on her solo homer to earn Guardian Bank Player of the Game honors.
