Blazer Men’s Golf Concludes Regular Season at Argonaut Invitational

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State men's golf team heads to Pensacola, Fla., for the 2023 Argonaut Invitational hosted by West Florida, Monday and Tuesday on the par 72, 6,815-yard Pensacola Country course.  
 
Monday's 36-holes will begin at 10 a.m. ET with a shotgun start, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday, also set for a 10 a.m. ET shotgun start.  Click here for live scoring of the tournament. 
 
The field features 17 teams with five ranked in the top ten of Golfstat and the Golf Coaches Association (GCAA).  No. 2/4 Oklahoma Christian leads the way, followed by No. 3/2 Lee, No. 7/5 West Florida, No. 8/7 Grand Valley State and No. 10/10 Georgia Southwestern.  Henderson State (14/9), Lincoln Memorial (15/18) and Limestone (25/--) round out teams ranked in the Golfstat Top 25, while Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL), is 27th in Golfstat and 12th in the GCAA.  Columbus State, Flagler, Montevallo, Christian Brothers, West Georgia, Valdosta State, Delta State and Arkansas Tech round out the field.
 
A total of 31 players (out of 93 in the field) are in the top 150 in the most recent Golfstat rankings, including three of the top four, six of the top 25 and ten of the top 50.  Arkansas Tech won the tournament in 2022, defeating Lee by four strokes as Francois Jacobs won medalist honors with an 11-under 205. 
 
The Blazers finished 14th in the tournament last season with a 901 score (304, 295, 302).  Current senior Chase Weathers carded rounds of 74, 77 and 73 for a 224 score and tied for 42nd, while current senior Ryan Pollman finished tied for 62ndwith a 228 score (79, 72, 77). 
 
For this tournament, VSU sends a lineup featuring sophomore Parker Highsmith, Weathers, freshman Joshua Burki, sophomore Gage Winkler, freshman Ty Folsom and sophomore Chase Long
 
VSU is coming off a 14th-place finish at the Bobcat Invitational, Mar. 20-21, at Cuscowilla GG in Eatonton, Ga.  There, the tournament was cut from 54 holes to 36 holes due to frost as Highsmith tied for 41st to pace the team with a 148 score on rounds of 72 and 76.
