Blazer Women’s Tennis Hosts Montevallo Friday

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's tennis team returns home to host Montevallo on Friday at 10 a.m. at the VSU Tennis Complex.  The Blazer women's team then will travel to Pensacola, Fla., for a neutral site match with Delta State on Sunday at 9 a.m. ET.

The Blazers are 1-4 on the year and 0-1 in Gulf South Conference play, while Montevallo enters with a 3-5 record overall and a 3-2 mark in league play.  Delta State is 0-6 overall and 0-4 in GSC play this season.  VSU is coming off a 6-1 loss to No. 8 West Alabama last Friday after earning its first win of the season the day before in a 4-0 victory over Tuskegee.  Against UWA, sophomore Anastasiia Vorobiova won 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) at No. 4 singles for the lone victory for the Blazers.  She is 2-2 this spring and 1-0 in conference play.  Junior Olivia Pezo took Yuri Takanishi to three sets at No. 2 singles, falling 5-7, 6-1, 0-1 (11-9).  
 
The Falcons are coming off a pair of wins over Christian Brothers (7-0) and West Georgia (5-2), while they also have a 5-2 win over Delta State and losses to West Alabama (7-0) and Mississippi College (5-2). Eva Dirr leads the team in singles with a 4-3 record this spring and a 3-0 mark in GSC play.  Lieselotte Hartlohner is 3-1 in GSC play and 4-4 overall, while Mireia Turro is 4-2 overall and 3-1 in league play.  In doubles, Turro and Cyba Ozzor are 4-2 at the top spot in the lineup and 2-2 in league play. 
 
Montevallo leads the series 4-2, but the Blazers won the last matchup during the conference tournament on Apr. 28, 2022, in Montgomery, Ala.  VSU also won in Valdosta on Mar. 23, 2021, 5-2.  
 
VSU lead the series against Delta State 11-1 and has won 11-straight, including a 7-0 victory in Pensacola, Fla., on Mar. 21, 2022.
