Pettigrew and Bennett Named to 2023 Volleyball All-GSC Teams

VALDOSTA, Ga.- Junior Christina Pettigrew and junior Audrey Bennett both received All-GSC team honors announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Pettigrew was named first team All-GSC while Bennett was appointed second team All-GSC.

Christina Pettigrew has had an excellent season for the Blazers, playing and starting in all 31 matches. She leads VSU in points with 352.5 on 264 kills and only 74 errors, hitting a team-best .315 percent. Defensively, she ranks third in the conference in blocks with 108 total blocks, 23 of which were credited as solo rejections. She also has 23 service aces, 69 digs and eight assists. Her reliable play on both sides of the net have helped give the Blazers a 18-13 regular season record with a 10-6 mark in the GSC.
 
As a Blazer, Pettigrew has accumulated 419 kills, 59 service aces, 122 digs, 212 total blocks and 11 assists. Pettigrew currently ranks 10th in VSU all-time solo blocks with 54 while also being ranked 13th in total blocks.
 
Setter Audrey Bennett has proven to be the engine that runs the Blazer offense, accumulating 881 of the Blazers' 1247 total assists for a conference second-best in the category. She has started in 20 matches while making appearances in all 31 games so far. As a whole, Bennett does a little bit of everything on the court, tallying 112 kills and 17 service aces on the year while also recording 170 digs and 52 total blocks defensively.
 
For her career, Bennett has accumulated 154 kills, 1187 assists, 224 digs, 81 total rejections and 24 service aces. Overall, Bennett ranks 10th all-time in assists in Valdosta State history, hitting that threshold earlier this season.

This marks the first time the Blazers have had multiple all-conference selections under head coach Kaleigh Zoucha, and the first time since 2015 with multiple all-conference honorees.  In 2015, VSU had Susanna Peonia and Jesscia Codato earn first team honors, while Lea Jaklen and Natalia Campos earned second team accolades.  In program history, VSU has had 23 selections to the all-conference teams in volleyball including this season.
 
The Blazers are set to take on the Wolves of West Georgia one last time on a grand stage, in the first round of the Gulf South Conference Volleyball Championship at The Complex on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. For more information on Blazer volleyball, visit vstateblazers.com.
