VALDOSTA, Ga.- The Valdosta State volleyball team swept Alabama Huntsville in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-16) decision Friday night at The Complex.

With the big win, VSU improved to 18-12 with a 10-5 mark in the Gulf South Conference while UAH dropped to 16-9 overall and 12-3 in conference play.

First Set:
The Blazers went to work quickly at the beginning of the first set, rushing out to a 10-6 lead, capped off by a pair of kills from junior
Christina Pettigrew and graduate student
Mallory Roney. VSU continued to keep its foot on the gas, building its lead to five at 16-11 after a UAH service error. The Chargers battled back on a 5-2 run to make it a two point set at 18-16. However, the VSU offense banded together to go on an explosive 7-1 run to end the opening set, 25-17. The Blazers hit a staggering .364 in the set on 20 kills and only four errors.

Second Set:
Much like the first set, the Blazers raced out to a 9-4 lead in a flash in the early minutes of the second frame. The Chargers answered right back on a 5-2 run to bring the lead within two at 11-9. However, Valdosta State went back up by four following a pair of UAH attack errors, 15-11. UAH continued to be resilient, coming within two of the VSU lead once again at 18-16 before closing the gap on back-to-back Blazer miscues, 18-18. The Chargers ended up taking the lead on two straight kills before both teams traded a point back-and-forth, 21-20 UAH. The Blazers crept right on by the Chargers on a 5-0 rally to take set two, 25-21. Both teams hit well in the set as the Blazers hit .357 on 12 kills and 2 errors while the Chargers hit .306 on 16 kills and five miscues, proving errors to be a major factor in the frame.

Third Set:
For the third straight set of the match, the Blazers got out to an early lead 8-6 and did not let up from there. VSU proceeded to go on a six-point run to go up 14-6 until UAH struck back on a 4-2 run to cut into the Blazer lead, 16-10. However, the Blazers continued to step on the gas, going on another major run to force match point at 24-12. UAH tallied four straight points in the set before junior
Mackenzie Murray closed out the frame with a colossal kill, 25-16.
