Mallory Roney had an excellent final regular season performance on senior day as Valdosta State came up just short against Montevallo at The Complex Saturday afternoon, 3-1 (23-25, 18-25, 25-19, 19-25)

Roney, a Jacksonville, Fla. native, closed out her final regular season game with a bang, posting a double-double on 11 kills and 10 digs while also tallying a season-high in blocks on four rejections.

Following the loss, VSU ended the regular season with a 18-13 record and a 10-6 mark for fifth in Gulf South Conference while UM ended its season 12-17 overall and 10-6 for fourth in the conference.

First Set:
The Blazers and Falcons traded blows in the first set until Montevallo took a narrow lead in the waking minutes on the frame, 11-10. UM then pulled away on a 6-1 run to go up 17-11 in a hurry. However, the Blazers were not out of the set yet, outscoring the Falcons down the stretch to come within striking distance of the UM lead, 20-17. Montevallo tacked on two more before VSU stormed back on a 5-0 run to tie the set up at 22-22. Unfortunately for the Blazers, the Falcons were able to muster a 3-1 on three VSU miscues to take set one, 25-23.

Second Set:
Montevallo kicked off the second set by zipping out to a narrow 9-5 lead following a pair of Blazer mishaps. Down early, the Blazers battled back, rallying for a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the set, 10-9. The Falcons snatched the lead back on a 5-2 run before the Blazers ended up tying the frame up at 14-14. Montevallo ended up going on another run, out scoring VSU 6-2 down the stretch to take a four-point lead once again, 20-16. From there, the Falcons closed out the set on a 5-2 run to take set two, 25-18.

Third Set:
Down two sets, Valdosta State rallied on a massive 14-8 run at the beginning of the frame to take an early set three lead. Montevallo battled back on a 5-1 run to make the set interesting at 15-13. VSU continued to hold the lead despite how resilient the Falcons were. Up by two at 21-19, the Blazers closed out the third set on a dominant 4-0 run to take set three, forcing a set four, 25-19.
Fourth Set:
Montevallo began the fourth set on a massive 12-3 run to make a statement early. VSU battled back on six-straight points to come within three of the Falcon lead, 12-9. UM then went on a 7-2 run to go up by eight, 19-11. The Blazers continued to chip away at the UM lead but were unable to close the gap as Montevallo ended the set on two back-to-back kills, 25-19.
