10/7/2023 1:20:00 PM

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Valdosta State cross country teams competed in their third meet of the season on Saturday morning at John Hunt Park. The men's team placed 25th while the women did not get a score due to only racing with four runners because of an injury.

The Blazer women had four runners compete today as freshman Leah John did not race due to injury. As a result of that, the race still counts for the team, but they do not get a score. Junior Caitlyn Koske had her best race all season, as she recorded a time of 19:08.1 in the 5K and finished 92nd. Senior Katie LaCroix was not too far behind, clocking with a time of 19:11.6 and crossed the finish line in 96th. Freshman Charlotte Carley placed 183rd with a 20:28.8 and junior Kyleigh Rice ran a 20:57.2 and finished 213th. Tampa finished in first place, followed by Cedarville, Flagler, Mississippi College, and Catawba to round out the top five.

On the men's side, VSU finished in 29th out of 45 teams. Senior Logan Kraus led the way yet again for the Blazers, finishing the 8K in 25:43.8 and placing 102nd. He was followed by the Munger brothers, junior Alec Munger and freshman Aaron Munger who finished with the exact same time, clocking a 27:21.2. It was a PR for freshman by 31 seconds, as he and Alec finished in 250th. Freshman Royce Eggert continues to improve, as he recorded another PR with a time of 28:50.5 in his third race as a Blazer, improving his time by 13 seconds. Sophomore Matthew Herndon recorded a season best time, running a 27:57 and finishing in 283rd. Overall, Charleston (W.V) took home first place. They were followed by Augusta, Alabama-Huntsville, Embry-Riddle, and Florida Southern to round out the top five.

Valdosta State goes right back to John Hunt Park on October 21st to compete in the GSC XC Championship. The women will run at approximately 9:30 a.m. ET, and the men will run at 10:30 a.m. ET. This event will be streamed on FloSports with a subscription.
